Bodog Poker is doing rakeback, kind of?

A lot of poker sites out there are against rakeback for various reasons. However, every poker room online is into player retention and loyalty. For this reason many of them offer a ‘points’ system which rewards players for their loyalty and for feeding the house with rake day in and day out. Most recent to integrate this system is Bodoglife.com and the details are pretty clear.

Players will receive $1 for every 100 points they accumulate. The minimum conversion is 2000 points ($20). The maximum amount a player can convert each month is 25000 points ($2500).

Points are accumulated in both ring games and tournament entries. For tournaments, points are awarded in increments of 3 points per $1 in fees paid. For ring games the points awarded are broke down according to the rake contributed to each pot.

• $1.00-$3.00: 1.00 points earned
• $0.50-$0.95: 0.50 points earned
• $0.25-$0.45: 0.25 points earned
• $0.05-$0.20: 0.10 points earned

Presenting this information on a poker portal can be a nice addition to the standard room reviews used by most affiliates. When trying to send players to Bodog let them know that on top of the instant deposit bonus they will also receive cash back each month. This is pretty much the equivalent of 30% rakeback offered by a majority of poker rooms.

Kudos to Bodog for coming up with a rakeback system that is both fair to players and affiliates. Issues with 3rd parties (affiliates) paying players rakeback has and always will be one of the biggest debates in this industry.

Great initiative, expecially if 25000 points paid $2500 like written in the article… $250 that is. With 20000 points I went str8 back to Bodog, without doing the simple math myself. Lol. But ok $200 is better than nothing :p

Can the boys ever get their minds out of the gutter..;) I think this is awesome. Its funny if you look back say 9 months ago I was entirely against rakeback, but now I am looking into a bit more. I think I have to give players a choice at how they want to play rather than making that for them. There are bad apples in every group but it doesn’t mean that all rakeback affiliates are that way.

I have never been a big fan of rakeback either. However the issue for us non rakeback affiliates is that the players are the ones driving it and learning about it. It’s better to be proactive about capturing some of this business than just getting pissed that the players are leaving.

The Bodog solution seems like a win/win for everybody, well except the rakeback guys.
