July 17, 2009 (PAP Newswire) — The last woman remaining in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) competition has been eliminated, reports the Associated Press.

Going into the last stretch of play that will determine the final table, Leo Margets of Barcelona, Spain was eliminated in 27th place earlier this week when her ace-seven failed to improve against her opponent’s ace-10.

The article stated that, even though poker is increasingly being embraced by female players, “only about 3 percent of the tournament’s 6,494 players were women.” Annie Duke remains the highest-placing female in WSOP history, having finished at 10th place in 2000.

Margets leaves the competition with $352,832.
