Why Cyprus?

Just wondering. Centralized spot on the globe for all or is there more as to why this spot was selected.

I don't expect it to be the room rates either

Hey Cogger,

Depending on where you live being 'centralized' could mean just about anywhere. Now for people in North America, like myself, this is quite a distance to go I'll admit. Here is the deal however - being that CAP Spring Break follows this conference immediately we wanted to chose someplace very cool and exotic. Also for many of our European members this is an excellent choice as well.

With that being said both Jeremy and I are looking into doing more events and meet ups on this side of the world. Starting this summer (late) we are going to be hosting our first ever Canadian Poker meetup and hope to see a lot of our American friends there as well!

Next year Poker Conference will be in a new spot and hopefully will be closer to you and a few others here. However for this year I would still really encourage everyone thinking of attending to make the long flight (with us) and be a part of this. It's going to be packed with quality speakers and follow the same open door policy of 'ask whatever you want to' that we try to have here on PAP.

Another reason is that we didn't want to go to western Europe again as we have Barcelona and Malta although nice is the greatest place for beaches plus there have bee a few shows there already.

Finally the other reason is that it is only 40 mins flight from Israel, Russians are a couple of hours away and don't need visas and it isn't a massive flight for us in Europe. PLUS it is supposed to be awesome and HOT

Next year who knows - USA may be legal and we can smash it up in Miami again!!!!

Italy is a nice place for sure. However, it's going to be a little rough to get over to for all of us across the sea in North America. London is a great central location for us; but not very Spring Break like! Good suggestion as I would love to visit sometime.

Why couldn't we have a meeting at Vegas or Tunica?? I guess I'm unclear of the legal issues with having one here in the sates..

Most operators won't step foot into the U.S. which would make it very problematic to host a conference, considering most affiliates come to meet with affiliate managers.

If they would, we would do it in a heartbeat.

Jeremy is bang on with his answer - I have no idea on the legal situation but it is 100% sponsorship and attendance support - Just look at the Bahamas last year where CAP SpringBreak really struggled to find sponsors for the event or CAC in Canada which barely got 70 people to attend and neither of those were even in the US.

I think it also isn't just operators, there are many affiliates that are not comfortable attending an event such as that on US soil - They quite rightly feel they are literally placing themselves in full view of the authorities.

I really hope a US event isn't far off as I would love to smash it up in Vegas again on an expense account - The first event back there is going to be huge! Hopefully within the next 2 years we will be back at least with poker......
