If you play live poker, Phil Hellmuth Presents Read Em and Reap by Joe Navarro is excellent, and my pick for the best book on poker tells.

It's all about body language, from this career FBI profiler. It has given me way more insight than I got from Caro's book. Such a good book. People who play in our live poker club don't want to let anyone else know about it because it makes such a difference at the tables.

I'm about halfway finished with this one. I like it a lot too.

Has anyone read Caro's Book of Tells AND Read Em and Reap. I'd be interested in how they compare/contrast.

There are tons of strategy books out there now. I have a shortlist of the books I would recommend to any new poker player, and even a few experienced players.

Introduction To Probability Theory - Charles Grinstead
David Sklansky - Theory Of Poker
Harrington On Hold'em (Volume 1; Strategic Play) - Dan Harrington
Harrington On Hold'em (Volume 2; The Endgame) - Dan Harrington
The Mathematics Of Gambling - Edward O. Thorpe

Notice a few of those aren't exactly "strategy" books, but the information they contain has been a huge value to my play. I think having a grasp on probability theory is a must for anybody that takes poker seriously.

Ask yourself the following questions:

If I flip a coin once, does the outcome affect the odds of my next coinflip?

If you answer yes, you must read the book. If you answer no, you should still read the book.

I've read both of them, they are both focused on limit and stud games mostly - but can be helpful with your live game.

Good players will easily spot you looking for these and reverse them on you though.

I just ordered "The Elements Of Poker" on Trikkur's reccomendation.

If you enjoyed the HOH tournament series, the rizen/apestyles/pearljammer book is a great read. One of my fav mtt books is the surpisinly the Full Tilt one, especially Bloch's chapter.

You all seriously need to go and by Elements of Poker.

It is the only poker book that have both improved my game significantly and entertained me.

Anyone read Poker: The Real Deal by Phil Gordon (subtitle: Insider Tips for the co-host of Celebrity Poker Showdown)?

It's a quick read and covers an array of different poker-related topics.

Default Good books

Got really intrested in the elements of poker people talking so highly of. I have just tried a free poker offer, but Redkings seems to deny that I have signup by them so I problably do not get the books otherwise the books coming in are mathematics of poker and No limit holdem - theory and practice (in swedish!) .

To pick a book or two or whatever are very hard. On our pages we have put together a reading strategy section for holdem and one for 7 card stud. They are aiming to build a player up and we do believe they are all good books in different ways of course.

SS 1 + 2 have very good chapters on stud games.
Theory of poker are a great book to build the understanding of poker.
Harrington on Holdem 1+2 did really improve my tournament results when i read them.

If you want to read what we recomend:
Reading strategy books for hold'em
Reading strategy books for 7 card stud (in swedish but you see the pictures at least)

We have not published the reading strategy for omaha yet, but it is comming soon. And just now I realized that we forgot to translate that 7 card into english... so much work to have these websites
