Default Vista

I don't know what all this crap about Vista is all about. I hung on to my old computer way too long, was one of the last with XP and Vista started coming preloaded right afterward and with all the stuff you hear about it I put it off as long as I could, and last week got a new Vista machine since the old one just wouldn't cut it anymore. That and the absolute pain to get everything set up on a new computer which I'm still working on by the way.

Anyway the verdict is, Vista is the bomb! At least on my machine anyway. Maybe it's because I've got a i7 940 and 9GB DDR3 but this thing just rocks everything and anything.

If you're looking to buy soon the i7 is everything they say it is and crushes quad cores. In fact this has 8 virtual cores, 4 with multi threading, and is a beast.

Some people prefer Macs but to be honest I'd never buy anything that you'd have to switch operating systems. A lot of my software won't run on a Mac including my web builder, and there's a lot of poker rooms I play at that you can't use it there either. Plus they are a lot more expensive for the money - double or more money for the same thing. They do offer 8 physical cores but even if I wanted to spend 10 grand for a fully loaded system I'd still have to wrestle with the stupid Mac problem and for 3K I got everything I need and then some with the PC.

I remember that being a pain in the ass 15 years ago, no idea how bad it would be but I can imagine Mr. PC on those Mac commercials dangling from a rope if that's all they had now

lol, its bad enough those mac commercials are already funny and make me want another mac. I wish I never sold my macbook laptop. I use a old desktop dell now. (made in 2004) Happy I can play at more poker rooms though.

I am going to buy a new laptop though. (PC) *Sorry mac fans, I have to go to the PC side for awhile*

I think the new version of windows is set to drop this year. Windows 7. A guy I know downloaded it as a Beta a while back and it seems cool. Then again, the new OSX version will be dropping soon as well.

I'm not real big on forking over a bunch of money for a new OS. The only time I did that was from 95 to 98 and it was because 95 was horrible. I've got no problems with Vista though and have read that some of the features aren't included in 7, windows mail, calendar, etc, and they are going to sell them to you on top of the OS which doesn't turn me on either. Not a big deal but generally this stuff doesn't provide a whole lot of bang for the buck. Who knows though, if it's not too expensive I might have a good look.

By the way the thing is set to release on my birthday which is a good day even without this happening

I think the problem with Vista was not that it was bad, but that they released it without testing it sufficiently, figuring they would let the users test it and then fix it in patches. Most people did not like the idea that they had to pay top dollar to essentially be beta testers. I think microsoft has figured it out now that you need to put in the work before the product launches.
