This thread is to give some of our friends on here from the U.K. a place to vent their frustration away from the normal affiliate discussion which appears to be needed
Of course I've got an opinion on everything and didn't even know what the hell they were talking about until I did an internet search and I think I know what the deal is now so here goes:I'm not from the U.K. and don't know much about the scene there so this is from that perspective. As for political scandals I suspect that people's skins might be a little thinner than over on this side of the pond when it comes to this stuff. When you take the budget of a country this size and then you start thinking about what all these alleged improper expense reports add up to it's a miniscule amount really. Now I know people will argue about the principle of the thing but when everyone's doing it and when they pay these people what really amounts to ridiculously low salaries in comparison to the responsibility they have, not to mention alll the crap they have to take being in the public scrutiny and all the butts they have to kiss along the way, well it's not something I'd want with or without free bags of fertilizer. There's all sorts of corruption that goes on here and in fact you could say the whole system is based upon corruption. It takes money to get elected which in a sense amounts to collecting enough bribes and only the truly naive is going to think all these millions are being donated with no interest. I'd be worried about that long before I'd be concerned about folks padding their expense accounts, which happens often enough in the corporate world as well. There's also plenty of the more traditional forms of corruption that happens here and over on this side it's a lot more ho hum. Here in Canada both major political parties have been busted with large corruption schemes and people just don't vote for that party the next time and other than that it's not seen as any real kind of big deal. In a lot of countries, all out total corruption is the norm and is expected and some are even run like the mafia where bribing officials is just part of everyday business. If you look at all the money that governments waste, and you look at the size of this stuff, I'd be a lot more concerned with the former, and it's only that people are so used to all the pork that the only thing they can tasts is some flecks of pepper they might spot on it.

I have come up with a fair way to appease the general public from what has happened with the expenses scandal.
Every MP has their expenses scrutinised and all those who are found to have made illegal or blatent unethical claims are sent back to their constituents.... This is the best bit We then place said politician in a modern day stock type device that spreads the legs and allows every constituent the chance to kick them once in the nuts. I would have my faith in governement restored if this took place |

Well you don't want to get rid of all the dodgy expenses, losing money at online poker rooms at the public's expense might be worth keeping
