'Joke' Blog Post Hits Google Hard!!

Thought this was 'cocktail lounge' stuff - although maybe a serious lesson somewhere hidden here.

Try a Google search for 'WSOP 2007 Final Table'... as 100's of folks are doing right now... if you are quick (i won't last long!) then you'll see a link to my trusty poker blog 'Plan3t Gong Poker' in 4th or 5th place.

I did the post as a joke, complete with photoshop pic of my head on a previous winners picture. Followed it up with a bit of (British!) humor about putting the winnings on a dog-race and forgot about it.

The traffic has been amazing - usually get somewhere between 80 and 130 a day on my blog but we are currently triple that - sure it is not the best quality traffic.... but a few clicks on Titan and more than usual signing up to my list means it is not wasted either.

Now the high ranking sites will soon take over, but I will enjoy my days in the sun... the lesson - get in early for a short-term keyword and you never know!

Traffic like that is never wasted, because you'll pick up more natural links directly to that post. Even if you get one link you didn't have to ask for, that's a profitable post. And if the content is really funny, you'll pick up more than one link.
