Default Laptop -> Flat screen

Hey guys Ive seen a lot of talk about flat screen 20 inch monitors and such, I was wondering how this works with a laptop? What kind of connections do you need to buy and what about for a keyboard?

I would probably rather buy it at a store rather than online ... future shop or best buy.. what kind of costs am I looking at for a cheaper but still nice model?

yes as long as you have an external connection on your laptop. most laptops have a analog (VGA) connection but very few have digital (DVI)connections. Some have S-Video but unless it's also a TV you do not have to worry about this.

Just find out what you have and what the monitor you want has. if your laptop is old (older than 2 years), find out what graphics card it has so you can find out the max resolution.

I hook my laptop up to a 21 inch LCD at work via a dock that has only an analog connection. Works great.

Mine is the VGA connection and currently my resolution is set to 1280x800... what would be a good monitor to get for this type?

Also how do you use a keyboard? can you buy them to fit the USB connection?

Edit - All the LCD seem to widescreen, do you need a certian video card to display it widescreen?

Most of the keyboards have USB. Just plug it in and you are ready to go. There are some nice cordless keyboards as well but they're a bit more expensive too.

I have a 12" laptop that isn't widescreen and I can just plug it in my widescreen monitor and everything is fine. So I don't think you need a certain videocard for that. But you can check in your setting if your videocard supports widescreen resolutions.

Good luck!

I just did the same thing, and I love it.

I bought a 20 inch Samsung from NewEgg.com for about $289 or so....

Went and bought a wireless mouse and keyboard. I dont have the DVI, I have the AVG or whatever it is, but it looks fine to me.

Im an idiot when it comes to this tech stuff and I was able to set it up pretty easily.

My Laptop is about 15 inches, right now I am a very small affiliate not earning too much money... but do you think its worth $300 for a nice LCD screen to reward myself or should I focus that money on other stuff?
