Question about Berlin - any German affiliates?

This question is mainly for German affiliates or anyone with experience in Berlin. I will be in Germany next week and will be staying with a friend near Münster. He will have to work some of the days so I would like to visit some other areas of the country while I'm there.

1. Does anyone have any recommendations of where to stay in Berlin and tourist activities or things to do there?

2. Can anyone recommend any other areas of Germany or NW Europe that I should check out?
