I think back when the poker boom was really kicking in, the $10 free deal worked out a lot better because it got a lot of new players in who were apprehensive about credit cards. Hell, it got me playing originally at Royal Vegas when I'd never played poker before, and I ended up going professional for awhile. From the free $10 I got from Royal Vegas, I probably ended up generating in excess of $5k rake for them, quite the investment

These days though, I think you're more than likely just going to get bonus whores etc who take it. Of course all they have to do is generate $10 in rake for it to be break even for a room, so in theory at least it's not a bad idea.

I know plenty could use it.

Having said that.....if you did actually win the thing , you prolly don't need the makeover on your site !!!!
That could be a consolation prize for earning the title of "Worse Affiliate EVAR!!!"

Actually Dan it's a little bit higher. First there are costs associated with marketing the Free $10 campaign and getting the news out to players. Also most poker rooms are part of a network and receive on average 70-80% of the rake generated. The other 20% goes to the software company (ie: Boss Media, Playtech, etc). I would say that the deal costs them more like $20 per player.

Still, with every one in a million people like you who generate $5k it makes the 'numbers game' work.
