.it domains
Hi,
I have the impression that only EU companies can own and manage .it domians. Can anyone verify this? (Hopefully not )

Ok - sounds tricky... Unfortunately, I really need a .it domain, so I'll have to find a way around. Even if it means moving the company to the EU. I see plenty of .it affiliate sites, so there should be a way..

Ok! Do they have some sort of local presence service?
As far as I can tell, one needs to reside in EU as well as the company if the domain is owned by the company itself. A way to avoid this seems to be registering the domain in my own(or another EU-citizens) name, while using it for company purposes. I suppose I could officially just rent the domain to the company..
Web-solutions.dk:
Only companys and individuals within the EU are allowed registration. Web Solutions can act as proxy registrant for those clients which have no presense within the EU.
This is what the owner of a .it domain I'm buying is saying:
About .IT domain names I confirm that there is a restriction:
only individual and juridical persons residing in or belonging to a EU Member State (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Esthonia, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) can register domain names under the ccTLD "it".
IMPORTANT: please, note the phrase "...persons residing in or belonging to a EU Member State".
The trick is to register the .IT domain names as an individual person (if you reside in Europe) so you can set up your headquarter extra-EU but you can simply manage the domain name without any kind of problems.
Since I live in EU, I register all my .IT domain name as individual person so I'm free to operate all around the world.
Different if you are OBLIGED to register a .IT domain name to your company located outside EU, in this case you have really to switch to Malta or UK.
Is this true? With extra-EU I guess he means company outside EU, as this is the case with my company. Eventhough I'm a Danish citizen myself.

Hi guys, thanks for the help!
I haven't checked this thread for weeks, but I'm just about to make the purchase, so would be vital to get this sorted out!
My plan is to register the domain as a EU citizen, which I am, and once the site goes online the domain will be owned by a trusted friend of mines, and he will then lease it out to us, the company managing and using the .it domain. If there's severe problems with this, I'll be willing to move the company to Malta, EU, where I've previously lived for some years working in the business.
Some registars also offer a Local-Presence service, but I'm unsure about this method and if it gives any advantages in comparison to the leasing.
Would the leasing-method not be an accepted way do this? As long as the domain is registered and owned by an EU citizen, isn't that all that counts?
Thank you!!
