Default Best Poker Strategy Book?

What's the best poker strategy book you've read?

The best poker strategy book I've read was probably Ed Miller's Small Stakes Holdem, but I guess the "best poker strategy book" category is probably a little bit broad. We could also easily talk about:
  • The best no limit holdem poker strategy book.
  • The best stud poker strategy book.
  • The best limit holdem poker strategy book.
  • The best Omaha poker strategy book.
  • The best general poker strategy book.
And so on, and so on...

But anyway, what's your pick for best poker strategy book overall?

Have read a ton of these books and for me Reuben and Ciaffones 'Pot Limit and No-Limit' poker is the best.

It is one of those books which manage to combine fantastic writing, pro analysis and yet somehow contains enough 'gems' that you can gain something from it read after read... Not an 'instruction manual' as so many of today's books are either!

My Omaha vote goes to Rolf Slothboom... his ideas were ground breaking and go a long way to explain the number of completely fearless Dutch PLO players out there!!

Cheers, Mark

Honestly "The Theory Of Poker" for limit based games and "No Limit Hold'em Theory And Practice" for NLHE both by Sklansky.

"Theory of Poker" was the first book I read and it really set the foundations in terms of thinking like a Poker player. I will agree with Mark on the book by Reuben and Ciaffone, great book (still never heard of London Lowball though).

My favourite though is Phil Gordon's little green book. I still read over parts from time to time to keep things fresh.

Hands down the only poker book worth reading for someone that isn't a total beginner is Elements of Poker by Tommy Angelo

Since any serious player knows that a poker strategy book is pretty much worthless, Elements of Poker talks about stuff besides ZOMG, raise when you have AA UTG. Tommy Angelo is a world renowned mental game coach for Krantz, Raptor, OMGClayAiken etc. The book talks about how to be a better poker player, but not in a strategical sense. It has a few different topics, but by far the part that made it worth the money to me was the stuff on quitting. Quitting when you are winning, quitting when you are losing, quitting when you are bored, etc. He talks about the factors you should be looking for to know when you should quit a game.

I was already a winning 400NL player making 10-15k+ a month when I bought this book and it easily improved my game.

Elements of Poker - That is a non-affiliate link

Here is a list of articles from his site - some of these are in his book
http://www.tommyangelo.com/articles.html

I highly recommend reading "Reciprocality: The Cause of Profit at Poker" from his articles.

I recently read 'Kill Everyone' but Lee Nelson which is great for tourney players. Probably not the best book ever written but is well worth the money. I enjoyed reading it and it improved my game.

I enjoyed that one too, although I'm not sure I'd include it on my "best poker strategy book" list. Maybe on my "best poker tournament strategy book" list.

I thought it was better than its predecessor, "Kill Phil" - have you read that one too?
