It is quite amazing that people are drinking the
FTP kool aid. I have mentioned this story several times but it is worth repeating. IN season 2 of the WPT I met with Andy Bloch and gave him some ideas that I thought would be good in hopes of getting on board with
FTP. Andy loved the ideas and thought I should talk to Chris Ferguson immediately. That evening I had dinner with Chris, who is genuinely a nice guy and as I went further into my ideas it became clear that the best approach was through an affiliate program. Chris looked at me odd and said "we have no plans to have an affiliate program as of yet". OK, that isn't so shocking but then the next thing he said is that they didn't believe that was the right direction.
Circa today, they have one, it clearly sucks. It sucks because they didn't want one from the beginning. I think all sites view affiliate programs as somewhat of a necessary evil. But when a site is giving you 20% when the industry standard is much higher, I think that is ridiculous. Couple that with the crazy chargebacks and I don't think you have a good partner. I hope it changes because I like everyone at
FTP and I think they are great for poker.
