There are two basic types of hosting ( some deriviates of the two ) Virtual Hosting, and Dedicated Hosting
Virtual hosting, in a nutshell, means that your sites are on a server that is shared by many others. How many, depends on the hosting company, and if they are concious of their users or greedy! ;-)
In most cases, on Virtual hosting, ALL of your sites are on one IP... better hosts offer you the option of individual IP's, but they charge monthly for them as a rule.
Dedicated hosting means that you have your own server with ONLY your sites. Depending on the host, and their interface, you may have to do your own work to make sites work. Most have user friendly control panels that allow you to add/update sites with little problem. GOOD hosts 'Manage' your server.... meaning that the upkeep/upgrades, ect are done by them
Virtual is less expensive...
Dedicated will run you $150 and up, depending on your needs, BandWidth usage, IP's, ect....
this is a simple, nutshell explaintion! ;-)
