Default Biggest Mistakes You Made In 2007

So everybody has been writing about all the great things we are going to do in 2008 in our affiliate business. Let's start a topic on some of the biggest mistakes you feel you made in 2007. Whether they are serious or funny, post them here.

You can actually learn quite a bit from both your own and others mistakes.

I'll start. Well first I bet my hair on the Chicago Bears having a better record than the Packers....oops.

On a business note I would say my biggest mistake was not taking "ownership" in a few projects I was working on. Throughout the course of 12 months I also had way too many issues with hosting and server issues that I let spiral out of control.

Luckily I don't think I made any major mistakes so to speak, I have been fortunate to learn a lot from other people and not fall into any major holes.

However, the biggest mistake that I made was spending too much time browsing the forum and just checking stats. Although I like to think I'm 'working' I'm really not, and this time could have been used far more effectively by writing content and building links.

I can think of so many hours just browsing the forums and refreshing pages and doing the same thing with stats, just taking my time and watching the minutes fly past. Theres no doubt that there's a lot of really useful information going around here, but the really key part about it all is putting what you have learned into action, rather than just sitting back and trying to find something else interesting. Theres no use learning something if you are not going to use it.

I don't do too much brainstorming at the computer, I seem to do a lot of that away from it so I'm not wasting much time there. Strangely enough most of my best ideas have come from in the shower, so maybe showering more might prove to be pretty productive.

My biggest mistake was staying at my job too long. Should have sacked it long ago in order to put more time into the affiliate business and/or having a life.

Personal - not planning enough for the future.

Business - I would say not being productive enough on my own sites, and sticking around here or other forums. I like to read and look for information. I enjoy helping people and I know I ask a crap load of questions and they are put to use, but I could also be putting more effort into my own sites. I waste a lot of time checking where I am in the serps my keywords etc. So that is where I am will be making the biggest change. Someone likes to remind me that each page is another entry point to my site and each page provides another link to my site...

Passing up two good opportunities

Not enough balance. This year my time working will be based around quality time and not quantity. I really can't complain though.

My biggest mistake obviously was sending over 900 of the same e-mails (newsletters) to each recipient because of a one character type error in my script. It took me two weeks dealing with people who were threatning me with the most aweful things. In the end it costed me just 50 members, but I am sure a lot of readers have ad me to their spam filter as well. Just so you know, there were also a reasonalble amount of readers who understood there was problem and I awarded the kindest responses with a Poker For Free T-shirt.

Another big mistake was that I played online poker until September 2nd and waisted a significant amount of time and money. On the controversy, you could also say that it was good I quit playing online poker in September. Business grew like crazy after I was able to put in more time.

Biggest Mistake for me was not getting the right hosting I needed for my wordpress blog (bingo) and missed out on getting all the pages I needed crawled indexed.

Biggest mistake : Trying to be all things to all people.

Have since focussed more on niche marketing and identifying weak markets. Tested this is some non-poker opportunities and results have been spectacular. We're talking over 500 uniques daily in just one month. Far supasses anything I've been able to acheive with my first poker site.

Best decision : Purchasing IBP & Arelis. SEO program second to none but very expensive.
