4th of July......what I do for a living

So I just got back from a long day with family and friends and if I ever have to explain exactly what I do as a poker affiliate again I am going to hang myself.

How the fu#* do you explain what we do to someone who does not even know what poker is or have an understanding about affiliate programs. I swear everyone in my family is certainly intrigued by what I do, but pretty much no one understands it. I really believe they all think I am involved in something illegal or mafia related :P

Anyone else have this problem when talking to people about being a poker affiliate?

I'm an affiliate for more than just poker sites, so I usually focus on them when someone asks - unless they are poker-obsessed like me

I would have to agree with Bigboy. I have had puzzled faces when I have tried to explain what I do. It then leads to a discussion about gambling, poker and illegal activity (not in that order). Which is hard to discuss with someone who has no knowledge about poker. Let's face it...I see nothing illegal in any way what so ever about poker (contrary to the US department of Justice). I have learned it is better to avoid the poker affiliate discussion and say something along the line of "online marketing for several websites". Following up with how awesome poker is these days and sharing my knowledge of the game (limited as it may be)!

I explain it quite simply, I run websites and sell advertising and leads to big companies.

Most know I watch porn all day anyways.

However, I do set aside time to work on promoting online poker too . Explaining it is always weird. Its a new industry and thats always hard to explain.
