I had horrible relations with Bodog for being in violation their ToS. Didn't know that I was in violation, as I was using tactics that I have used in the past to make me and the poker rooms I'm affiliated with a lot of money.
I had sent quite a bit of traffic to Bodog in a one month period and had 66 or so depositing players... I was on their CPA plan, so 66 paying players equated to $6,600 in commissions. Then their very rude and obnoxious affiliate "manager" got in touch with me to reprimand me for being a bad little affiliate, talked to me as if I was some kind of criminal, and then penalized me
ALL of my commissions.
And then he expected me to continue promoting Bodog via another avenue. Right. As if. I mean, they take all the real-money players that I had sent them, and gave me NOTHING for it. My effort had cost me about $1,400. I think I'll stick to the competition and continue to make money, rather than jump through Bodog's hoops. Too much work, not enough payoff. Bodog is the only casino with whom I have ever taken a loss as an affiliate.
Screw Bodog. I'll never send traffic to them ever again.
By comparison, I had a similar situation a couple years earlier with a different casino affiliate program (one that I'm still with and quite happy with). After a year of sending them a load of high quality traffic, in which we both made a tidy sum of cash, they discovered that I was using a URL that was "too close to their own brand name". I was doing nothing that would damage their brand name at all. I was simply redirecting high quality, high converting traffic to their site. They simply asked me to stop using this method. Unlike Bodog, they did NOT penalize me, and they did not withhold my commissions. So I stopped using that particular method of sending them traffic, and all was (and still is) well with the world. In fact, one year later, they bought the domain off of me for a nice price.
If Bodog had simply called me on the violation, asked me to create another way of promoting their brand, and let me keep the commissions I had earned up to that point, and treated me with a bit more dignity, I would have gladly continued to promote their brand. I liked their website. I liked all their offerings. But the harsh treatment pretty much showed me what I could expect from this company in the future. And that was enough to turn me off of their brand completely.
There are a lot of really good affiliate programs out there.
Just say NO to Bodog.
