Default Total Newbie To Affiliate Marketing - Need Help

Hi, I am a total newbie to the whole affiliate marketing arena. I am an avid poker fan and just statrted a Texas Holdem blog (http://holdemcorner.blogspot.com). It is pretty lame right now, as I just statrted it a few days a go. I am just learning the ropes and how to post stuff to my blog. I have numerous questions and I am hoping someone will be kind enough to answer them.

1. Do most affiliates have blogs and websites or just one of them?

2. Is most money made from promoting poker playing websites or poker products/software or perhaps a combination of both?

3. Is there a site to go to that I can get free ebooks on poker or free poker stuff to put on my site(blog)? I ask this because on one of the affiliate sites it asks if give away free stuff.

4. Are there any things that are a "must have" for my poker site (blog)?

Thanks for your help.

Scott

Well, you got pretty simple blog. looks good though you need to improve a bit. try to update your news or article every week. put some banner 125X125 left hand side. also sign up with Feedburner, and do some RSS.
you can have a look at my Poker blog and get the idea. i have also have a blogspot blog been pretty long about 4 years. blogs really works good if u keep updating your articles. good luck

At some point you need to get a domain or get off a site like blogspot that you really don't own.

If you want to make big money with your current blog, you'll need to do a few things:

1. Learn SEO, get tons of backlinks, and also learn how to rank well for the keywords that convert.

2. Get a new design or template that 1,000,000 other blogspot blogs don't have.

At the end of the day it's still a numbers game. You will need to drive massive traffic and have a great conversion strategy to generate huge revenue from just one blogspot site. Just my honest opinion.

Okay. Its true if you have your own domain, it's good, does not mean it will work much better.
but Jeremy, you are wrong here, blogspot have some nice design Template, or you can easily modify one as you like.

also you can do much better than a poker portal with a blogspot. if you continue update your blogs. Trust me it works really good.

For myself, i started a blogspot 4 years ago when i start first poker affiliate, and it really worked, though i have lost my original articles due to not keep the back up last year. however it is always good start with a blog.

1. Affiliates have been successful with both regular websites and blogs (to me they are almost one in the same anymore). It's just how you organize your content and how you theme your site. Take a look at the signatures of the other affiliates on this board and you will start to see what different affiliates do.

2. There is money in both, but most affiliates here promote online poker sites, if that tells you anything.

3. People give away free stuff on their site in order to capture leads or just to provide a service to their visitors that will attract them to their site, or keep them coming back. I'm not sure what is out there for you to use though.

Regarding your domain, I don't think you necessarily have to get a domain that is not blogspot.com to do well. I know one guy who has done well with a blogspot.com domain and ranks very well in the search engines: guinnessandpoker.blogspot.com/

Best of luck.

Mark
