Default How to get pages into search results in other languages

Just wondering how to get your translated pages into the search results of other languages?

For example, I found a WP plugin that uses the google translation service to translate your blog posts to other languages. Now is there something you have to do in order to get your blog posts to show up in these other language search results on google?

does it help that the plugin uses google to translate the site?

Or is it best to have the site translated over to a new site on a domain that is appropriate for that country? IE .se for Sweden.

Thanks.

Hey Corey when I had them translated what I did was set the site up with an extra directory, so for example it would go mysite.com/se/

I didnt have to do anything special to get them indexed, made sure the root of the /se/ was linked to from every page within the site and once google crawled, it it was indexed within a few days.

How good is the Google translator? Is there any other automatic translation software that does a decent job, or would putting up any auto-translated content on a site be a mistake?

Automatic translating software is completely worthless. You should never use it if you want to actually have people read the stuff. You'll just embarrass yourself.

The software is okay for a word or two, or to give you an idea for what a page is about, but it spits out incoherent text overall.

Thanks PPP. That is the kind of information that I was wondering about. I was thinking about it this morning. If you had multiple descriptors of a word then went to translate it would it work?

Might confuse the software and lose its true meaning.

It's easy to check. Go to a page in some language other than English, plus it in, translate it to English and see what you see. It might get a sentence right, but pages will be near gibberish.
