Default How do AMs get paid?

Just wondering about how AMs get paid? Is it very different with every program? Is it strictly salary - or a lot of bonuses and commissions?

Reason I am asking - is I am finding that different programs' AMs want very different things.

Some seem to want players - don't care if they are big or small - just more more more.

Some seem to want quality players and are less concerned over quantity.

Some don't respond to emails.

Some do.

So, how DO they get paid?

Any feedback from AMs themselves, or "used to be" AMs is appreciated!

Thanks!

Most of us get salaries and bonuses - some get better bonuses like in all companies.

The ones who don't respond are just not very good at their jobs

I'm curious about this too.

Honestly, I think Brandon should start a AM conference with LOTS of training on how to be more like Brandon. It seems like most AM's don't take their job serious or don't care.

There are some great AM's too though. Shenaz for example at Cake Poker. i emailed her this morning because I got hit with a bunch of email questions about Cake Poker. Within an hour she signed up and posted on my forum and that just kicks ass. That makes me and my players super happy and confident in their programs. Keep in mind that I'm small time too. I'm def. not a baller affiliate lol .

So, Shenaz and Brandon need to get a AM training conference going.

I think a relevant question to consider when asking why they don't respond to emails etc is "what is their job responsibilities outside of AM"?

Hell, on some of these sites the AM might be the single CS rep too :-)

Typically AM's get paid a salary and some earn bonuses based on affiliate revenue targets. I remember talking to an AM from Israel one time at a conference and they were paid a very small monthly amount and then they had to meet certain targets to get the rest of their salary. I haven't heard many of these before though.

In terms of getting paid by players or revenue, I've just heard of getting bonuses based on revenue targets and not player targets. That's not to say that this type of compensation is not out there. Anything is negotiable.

Thanks Ridge, I really appreciate that! I would add Mark and Chris to that list as well (not to mention many others).

Every poker room/casino/sportsbook has their own way of paying their AM's. Bigger the company is, the more they are viewed as standard employees with standard yearly bonuses.

Smaller rooms are more likely to give the AM's bigger percentages/lower base salary to lower overhead and give their AM's the opportunity to earn a lot.

To often I hear about AM's working only for themselves. For instance if they have total player numbers to hit for a bonus, they only look to acquire quantity not quality. This is very bad for all parties.

If you have personal relationships with your AM's pay attention to your conversations, they can tell you a lot. If it seems shady...it probably is.

Brandon, I am willing to learn from you

Regarding responsibilities, some AMs (involuntarily) get involved in all sorts of company activities and politics - working for a previous company I was doing all sorts of tasks that distracted me from my AM role. I think the AMs that reply on time and are responsive are the ones with more focus on their role and don't have much interference from senior management in their companies.

Regarding revenue targets, I have worked in a company that paid me a bonus dependant on revenue generated as well as FTDs. I think it will be come more common for bonuses to be based on figures as results need to be produced.

The industry has evolved and this has resulted in better salaries and bonuses for AMs - I do honestly believe that AMs are not very well paid for what they do - it's a hard job that requires a lot of discipline and concentration if you do it properly though.

I can only speak on my behalf and of AMs that I know personally - it ain't easy receiving 200 emails a day from affiliates plus having to run reports, research, chase up exisiting partners, think of new ideas etc.

It's highly rewarding though

AM are basically hired to acquire new affiliates and maximize the value of their existing affiliates (sales). That needs loads of work, and that is usually the visible part of work by affiliates.

We are also constantly working on improving our affiliate offerings: the affiliate system in itself to provide you with the various tools you need (product development). We also try to find new ideas and watch our competition. Then if these ideas are implemented or not, or when to put these ideas on the development roadmap is usually top management decision; it can require loads of development by IT. Note that IT also has the end-player product to take care of, and all depends on the business priorities. A big operator like us might need some time to get it done, but in the end that will be done

We are also responsible of the branding of our affiliate program (marketing), meaning media-buys to promote our program, participation and preparation to conferences, etc…

You see that unfortunately we don’t have 100% of our time dedicated to you guys, but believe me good AMs do their best to respond to you in timely manner
