Default Domain question

Hi,
A guy has a domain that I am interested in purchasing. It would go well with my sites. He's asking for $300 for a domain that has no backlinks and no traffic except a bunch of spam bots. The domain name itself is kinda neat so I would love to have it, but $300 seems excessive. I was thinking like $50 lol! (Especially since the same domain is available in .net, .org, etc)

Also, I have a question on domain transaction. If this domain is registered until 2011 and I buy it, do I automatically get it till 2011? Do I have to use the same domain company that he has, or can I transfer to domain to the company I normally deal with?

Do I just send money and hope that the guy will make the transfer and not screw me?

I've never doen this kind of transaction before so I'm a little confused. Thanks for your help.

Barter with the guy, tell him you'll give him $50 because there isn't a lot of traffic and you don't need the domain desperately, put him on the spot so he has to make a decision. He'll probably counter offer, and then go from there and strike a deal.

If the domain is registered till 2011, you'll get it till then, and then you'll need to renew it. You can use the same domain registrar that it's currently at or you can ask him to transfer it out to another registrar. It's probably best that you get the domain at the current registrar first and then you can manage the transfer out yourself.

Don't send the money first, especially if you just found him via whois. The best thing to do is use a service like escrow.com or ask him to send the domain first. You just have to work something out between yourselves, you could also send half first and then he sends you the domain, and when you get it you send the rest.

EDIT: If the domain is poker related and it's just parked the chances are he/she is a domain squatter, so you can definitely barter on the price.

Hey man hows it going

I know a fair amount about gambling domains so if you want you can pm me the domain and I can give you some advice on the value.

Yes if it regged till 2011 you get it till 2011.

Yes you use the same register but after you have it you can most likely transfer it to another register but some places have different rules but more than likely you'll be able to transfer it.

Usually the transaction works by you sending the money and trusting the person but if you dont trust the person you can use escrow.com but usually thats people mostly use that for bigger transactions

OK, thanks for the info. I won't use escrow because the amount isn't that significant. We'll see what he says.

I think, When you transfer a domain with time left on it by Icann rules you get the time left with it however your new registar will charge a 1 year fee to move it, so it will expire 2012.
