Default Motivation

After 3-4 months of working getting a dozen sites online, I am having trouble getting motivated today. I know there are plenty of things to do, but I just don;t feel that creative drive right at this moment. Kinda ironic because I'm having my best month ever in the business.

So, my question is does this happen to everyone? What do you do to re-energize yourself? Also, I should be clear that I'm probably over reacting, this is just the first day in several month I haven't felt like writing content or updating sites, etc..

What motivates you? How do you get motivated?

Thanks

Put up great motivational quotes on your wall. Post up pictures of cars you want to buy or vacation spots you want to visit. Look at these every morning and when you feel unmotivated and then KNOW your hard work will be rewarded!

12 sites? Not bad for 3-4 months. Keep up the good work!

I'm in the same boat as you kinda...a lot of sites and a lot of things I should be doing. The problem I had is figuring out what should have priority so I spent a lot of time doing a little bit here and a little there....not accomplishing much. A little while back I created an agenda and prioritized everything and set deadlines. It has helped a lot, things pop up every now and then of course but overall I have my drive back and I'm getting a lot more done.

I am motivated by beating up my boyfriend every morning to wake him up. He keeps threatening to hit me but I know he wont.

He knows more that me about poker and should be bringing the money in through writing. Tells me its harder than I think & he's happier working and doing it in his spare time. I'll take his job and let him earn, what a waster.

i sometimes take an entire week off because of complete burn out, but its not a motivation issue. There are just times where you have to just rest up. I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to if so its probably common and something a lot of business owners experience especially during the earlier and/or expansion stages.

Something I found helpful for me was declaring my priorities. For example I chose one site, its not even the most heavy traffic site we have, that i am going to do manage daily no matter what, I do so on my days off or when I'm resting from burnout. This way I can log in check my side of the site be sure everything I need other to have done is happening etc. I'll write some quick content, or make some quick edits, move a quick link around etc and leave notes on what I need done. This way even on my days off I still am staying in the loop and feel I accomplished something for me site, it might just be 20-30 minutes.

Also something that helps me is live poker. Online poker is not much fun to me these days as I always feel like when I am sitting there playing, what is the point. The money I'll make here is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and if I'm going to be sitting as this computer waisting time I should be doing something productive. I don't get this feeling though when I go and play live because there is obviously not a computer in sight (or one I can touch without getting arrested anyways ) and when I'm done playing I ussually feel much better and get motivated to write about poker again. I can talk about some hand that occurred, or some humor article about live poker pet peeves, or something or another. It always sparks my desire to want to write about poker again.

Taking time off is always a good idea when you start feeling like that.

I do get that way sometimes. I just flat out refuse to work. I have two stages.

Funk 1 = Get online, do nothing but waste time.

Funk 2 - Refusal to touch computer.

The motivational things like pictures, or real estate tv, or checking out new cars, posting pics of them.. all that is great advice.

Also, get away! You can't think fresh staring at a pc, drive to the mountains for a day, take a trip. Go somewhere. Enjoy your family, garden, boat.. whatever... just get away! You'll be so full of ideas and the 'want' to get them out when you get back.. it's amazing really.

Another really cool thing is instant messenger. It can be a time waster, or it can be a serious motivator. (Message me if you like).

You have to be careful that you're not using IM's as a part of Funk #1 But.. IRL we don't really have a lot to talk about work wise with our friends and family most of the time.. So we do our networking online.

The review threads that you see.. and a lot of that networking is idea sparking conversation that leads to amazing websites.

Eventually it can become 'the grind'.. so you have to liven it up, learn something new, challenge yourself and your mind, have some fun with it.. etc

Go out and buy something for yourself. Gives you a sense of reward for what been you've been working so hard for. I just bought a new computer and flights to Vietnam for a holiday. I feel motivated to do a lot more work. Maybe I'm just materialistic
