Direct download links

Hey, i noticed some poker review sites have a direct download link for poker software on there review pages. I have gone through alot of poker affiliate programs back end and cant see these provided anywhere.

Are all direct downloads cookieable, IE how do i add my tracking link to them?

Some offer them and some don't. If rooms don't offer direct download links, portal sites generally just link to the normal web page to try and simply keep the web page design in keeping with others (linking to standard homepage from 'download' link), even though there may be no direct download link.

Good thread - I was wondering what affiliates thought with regards to Direct Download links.

Do you prefer offering them to your visitors? I have looked at stats at my end and direct download links work better than redirect links when the affiliate is offering something exclusive and different to the norm on the homepage.

Any thoughts?

I much prefer having direct download links. Makes things a little more professional allowing users the option to download the software directly.

Over the 3 months for example, I see a 12% better conversion rate which I think is substantial.

This figures obviously varies from company to company - any other numbers AMs?

In my opinion, if your site looks good, is trusted and have a strong community, having a download link can definitely increase conversions.

Im finding it really strange coming into this industry.

It seems like the backend of affiliate areas seems really bad. There seems to be a lack of promotional tools, clear and concise information about the program including links, trackers, bonus codes and download links.

For example, i had to email pokerstars support like3 times and have not got an answer. Since i wanted a direct download link and a custom code i can use for my offline marketing. and im yet to get an answer.

And it just seems like, i shouldnt have to do this. It should be easy for me to create through there online interface or done by support on my first email.

It just seems like an uphill battle to get some very basic information. And its not just stars ive had problems with so far.

As affiliates, would the fact that an operator has the ability to offer you a direct, tracked download of the software swing your decision on whether to promote them or not?

How about a deep link straight to the download page which is tracked? Or perhaps co-branded landing pages which detail the specifics of the offer that the operator and affiliate have struck for those players?
