Default Poker.com update causing my comp to crash

Just a heads up...I opened poker.com today and it updated and then my comp crashed when I logged in.

Thought it was just a random crash...so I went through each thing I was doing at the time again...and realized it was poker.com that caused the comp to crash. Happens each time following login.

Should I uninstall poker.com? Or will it uninstall something that will cause problems with my comp.

There was reference to x0000000110010110100 (eg) and the blue screen everytime I launch and login to the client.

I had the same thing happen except mine gave a trap error of some sort from poker.com itself. The thing went all stupid and opened up over 200 windows within 60 secs. everything froze so I had to unplug the pc to shut it down

Nice work PDC! Ever heard of testing updates before pushing stuff live? This isn't the first time I have seen something like this with a poker site either. What is wrong with these sites?

Thanks all for posting.

I have passed this issue to our technical team and will reply here once I have heard back from them.

Of course we test as much as possible internally before releasing our updates. But with the number of different computer setups and differing 3rd party hardware and software people have installed its virtually impossible to cover every single possible scenario that may cause a crash.

If anyone is having any trouble loading the client after updating I suggest you take careful note of any error messages and then email them through to our player support team who will then pass them directly to our technical team for investigation.

Cheers,

I beg to differ. Your statement is not only silly, it's also unprofessional. To call them "stupid" and then say it only takes seconds to test an application like an online poker client only demonstrates how naive you really are.

Outside of affiliating, I've been involved in the Application Lifecycle Management arena for many years. So I may be a little qualified to comment on this on behalf of Dean and all of the other "stupid" sites that release products with bugs in them. It's far more difficult than turning on an application, running it on a few machines or browsers, and then packaging it and shipping it out for release. I won't go into the the nuts and bolts but suffice it say, some applications take MONTHS and THOUSANDS of man hours to effectively test.

Using your logic, Microsoft could avoid all of their bugs by simply taking a few more "seconds" to test an application before they release it. Or perhaps the downtime that Twitter had a few days could have been avoided by a few seconds of testing...

I could go on and on but it's comments like this that brings PAP one step closer to being a hangout for retards like Digital Point. Next time you want to make a moronic post about something (application testing) that you clearly know NOTHING ABOUT, please take a moment and think about it.

Ya, but, instead of releasing updates every week like most sites do...a monthly or bi-monthly update would be better AND it should list all the effects of the update (notes or a readme file).

Also, it should be optional...as most updates are silly little things.

I always have the option to install updates with other types of programs/games, etc...

Simply updating automatically when you start the software IS NOT COOL...especially when poker clients have been known on occasion to pass on trojans, other problems...

There IS a more "prefessional" method to the whole thing...but most companies just rush out whatever updates whenever they feel it is necessary.

I have no idea about programming at all but do these not also provide a security benefit, if they were to reduce the amount of updates could it also reduce the security the site has to offer.

As for it upsetting me...meh its not a big deal really. More things to get worked up over then a program not running 100% and I think since I have had an account at poker.com (nearly 2 years now) this is the first time I have ever experienced a glitch in their software. Cant say that about Titan, Cake, or Pokerstars....

I think the point that is missed here though is that its fine to make updates optional for applications that aren't online. Stand alone products can never be updated and its makes no difference to their operation. I also am an avid game player too and have games that I never update because I never go online to play them and the game works fine as Version 1.0.

Our application ( a poker client) is an ever changing beast. As stated, there are issues like security, new payment methods, constantly changing ring game and tournament schedules etc that need to be calculated and delivered to players instantly. It can never be an optional install as we need all users to be running the same version or the software simply wouldn't work.

Cheers.

Dean,

If this is the case...these downloads shouldn't cause problems for our comps and carry viruses, etc...

Doesn't really make sense.

Either way, some rooms have an optional client that is hosted on the site instead of downloaded. That should always be an option for users. I know MANY players I have talked to that WON'T PLAY on sites where they have to download the software....just because they are worried that they may download something harmful.

Personally...I don't get bothered much by all these issues...but I can't even imagine the damage that it would cause to your player base if 1000s of players had problems cause of the recent download.

With 100s of choices out there...I can imagine that poker.com/carbon just lost a whack of players after these issues. But then again, that is only my guess.

Oh well...no big deal...but just a suggestion that better testing to avoid problems, would probably be beneficial for business.

I can't remember EVER having a problem with a Full Tilt or Poker Stars download.
