Default Content/Article Creation

Hi Guys,

I am looking for to get 250 poker articles a month done for my site. Can anybody steer me in the right direction. What should I be looking to pay for each 750 word article? What has people's experience been in using US/UK/Can based content creators as opposed to using Indian/Russian dudes?

Can anybody recommend any company/person?

Thanks in advance

Mike

It depends if you're trying to get all of the articles done by one person. If you get multiple people to do articles for you, it would probably be cheaper.

Usually, if you pay about 4-5 cents per word, no one is going to complain. So, you'd roughly be paying about 40$ per 750 word article.

There are a lot of people around this forum that would be willing to do some work for you. There's actually a section of this forum dedicated just to people looking to buy and sell content. Check some of the posts out there.

First I would ask the question what quality do you want?

This is the mistake i have made so many times. Thinking to just get content and more content. But in the end its more about quality of that content.

This is the first question because it means that depending upon the topics your writer will have to be either good , fair or just a content pusher.

If you are wanting quality poker content for poker you will have to pay

but you will get something more of value.

Now if you goal is to write for 2nd or 3rd tier sites in your network and you are just keyword article writing this is a totally different story and you can lesson your quality some what to save money and use your 3rd tier sites as more a link juice funnel.

Lastly unless you get recommended someone you will end up going thru a series of writers. Ill explain. Start off with 10 topics have 4-5 writers do the same article titles and topics. This way you can compare their skills and ultimately see what to expect from future jobs.

Then organize them in

ABC list

a= best ( $40 average)
b= good ($20 average)
c= ok ($5-12 average)

Now you can weed out the ones you dont like. In the beginning i went thru and still am going thru testing phases. I have found 3-4 writers that are really good and different kinds of writing . One good at press releases, one good at strategy, one good at pr articles.

If you hire indian writers* make sure you get test articles first for grammer. Some are actually really good but alot are total crap writers ( at least for gaming and poker). And if you hire uk guys* they use some different phrasing then in the US so if your focus traffic is USA , monitor all articles until you feel comfortable with the writers wording.
(*no disrespect intended)

Where to find writers:

Right here at PAP are some writers start here, for more options , use elance, getafreelancer, odesk are additional options as well.

If you are wanting to push out 250 articles a month , you will need IMO around 5-8 sources or writers, more of the quality writers have lots of other projects and you might need to spread out not only writing style but work load as well.

I'm currently working with Jeremy to have this as a topic on the PAP Radio Show. Hopefully we will be able to tackle it tomorrow night during the show.

Thx for the very helpful responses, in particular TripAAA.

Initially, I guess all I want to achieve initially is keyword placement for SEO, so maybe high quality content is not hugely uimportant.

However, on the flip side, high quality content may pick up some decent links to it, and thus be much more beneficial to SEO and traffic generation.

Ponder this: I pay $40 for a high quality article. I pay $20 for a low quality one (that is rich in keywords). Which one on average will drive the most traffic? And will the high quality one drive TWICE as much traffic as the low quality one. (I am talking averages here over thousands of articles). I know it is is very tricky to place a ratio or figure on this answer. But I would like to know peopes thoughts on it.

Cheers

Mike

Reviews and News are another topic, anyone with writing skills and information can write this stuff.

For strategy stuff.... .05/word is sort of the norm, but I got commissioned at .07/word for a 5 article series and I'm not even sure that was worth it for me. Since I didn't receive any great praise for my writing, I assumed i probably couldn't charge more so I stopped selling stuff.

I also realized that 1/2 the time I was putting in was just to make things perfect. It is much easier to just edit something twice and throw it up on my blog.

This reminds me of the day I gained my appreciation for good writing skills.

I was attending boarding school as a high school student. We had an insane English doctor, a little bit crazy. I was watching him make all these stupid hand gestures and rediculous movements for about 2 hours.

After that, he walked out of his room and read 3 sentences to us that explained a certain type of paddle stroke that is used in canoeing. Mind you...this was a guy with a PHD in English and it took him a few hours to write these 3 sentences. Ill also say, when he read them to us...we could tell exactly why it took him so long to write 3 sentences.

Granted...there are no PHDs in poker, but I just want to point out that some people are worth much more than .05/word.

In the poker world, if you want to charge more than .05/word, I think you need to either write something original and extremely well done...or you need to have a big name that can be used to bring in traffic.

Let me give you another example; This post...no longer worth my time to coninue.

Right..here is a question for the more experienced guys on here.

Scenario: You got your poker domain, you spend $50k buying 1,000 articles (some good, some bad) from a variety of sources. You work hard on getting links into those articles. Your site is a general poker site with a broad target audience. The articles are closely related to the type of traffic you want. You do this over 1 year.

Q1. At the end of the 1 year, how much traffic would you expect to be getting per day? (Just traffic that these articles will generate). If anybody can document their experiences, it would be even better.

Q2. At the end of the 1 year, you decide to leave the site alone, and you do no work on it for another year. How do you think this will effect your traffic figures? How much of a drop off do you anticipate, if any?

These questions are maybe stupid..tell me if they are! I am just trying to get some realistic expectations about whats achievable and whats's not.

Cheers

Mike
