Default How many sites to promote?

Hey All,

Just wondering what some of your thoughts are on what is the optimal amount of rooms to promote are. From my experience, it seems like most Affiliates aim to have a mix of large and smaller sites. But what amount of sites seems to work best for you?

I have some Affiliates that promote a handful of sites - 3-5 while others seem to take the opposite approach and promote every room (100+ rooms). Have any experiences where you have tried both methods - and which worked best for you?

If this question has been posed before, I apologize in advance. I did do a quick search on the topic this time

This is a good question, I always tried to have a top 10, and then a top 5-10 for U.S and then a few special promos just for my site, like rakeback/ deposit bonus/ gifts ect..

Well, I used to promote like 18-20, but at a certain moment I decided that 10 was enough and I started stripping sites that performed badly, ie low conversion rates and/or low revenue streams.

On many points, less is better, for instance:
  • You can keep your reviews, bonuses, promotions up to date.
  • You can send a larger amount of players to less sites, which gives you better rates and negotiation options.
  • You don't fool your visitors sending them to crappy rooms with the most exotic names, just so you can get your CPA.
I have actually come to a point that I rather take off two more instead of adding a new one. If I really want to work with a program, then I'd just have to build a new site I guess.

Cheers,

Giorgio

If you decide to be very exhaustive keep in mind that you need to help your visitors to make a choice, that's when a "top poker rooms" kind of section can help.

Ive given this subject a lot of thoughts the last couple of weeks, as i was making the business plans for 2009, and i totally agree with Pokerforfree.
Some it teacher in the mysterious year 2000 said:
"Theres so much space on the internet, its filled with 95 % crap, when you put stuff outthere manage to do the 5 %"
Reviews off all/ or to many pokersites at 1.Billion affiliate sites in the majority is a time waster. Wasting time for aff. managers, affiliates, surfers ect.

Experienced by history, this has been one of our companys biggest mistakes in the pokeraffiliate bizz, and i think a lot of new affiliates are making it again as we speak.

I think the 80/20 rule normally applies to poker affiliating as well. 20% of the rooms you promote make you 80% of your profit. While the other 80% of your sites make 20% of your profit.

I don't think it's a bad thing to promote many sites, but you need to also realize if most of your revenue is coming from a few streams you should focus more attention there.

I started promoting anything and everything. I've shrunk my list down to 4-5 at a time now and switch them up when they get stale.
