Advice on poker-related domain names
Hello,
I'm relatively new to the poker game and the poker affiliate game. I enjoy playing online and I know enough to come up with some catchy domain names. My web design skills aren't what they could be, and I can't code, although I know the basics. Should I focus on flipping poker-related domain names, acquiring or improving coding and design skills, or a combination thereof?
I should mention that I'm relatively technology-literate, just not when it comes to coding or visual design.
Thanks for any replies!

Hi and welcome to the forums.
I would suggest hiring someone to help you code and design your first site if you are not very good at it. You can find designers and programmers here that can create something for you under $500. I would suggest researching the industry and other poker sites from members here to get a good idea of how you want the site set up.
There are some people that flip domain names here but I'm not sure how lucrative that is. I'm sure they would have more advice on that. I know member "gtycoon" is an expert in this arena.
I would suggest also that you just "hang out" here for the next week or so and get a feel for what direction you might want to take. Read the forums and participate in the community and this should help you formulate your goals.
Best of luck.
Mark

Mark,
Thanks for the information. I appreciate the advice. I'll try to stay "in the background" for the next few days and absorb as much as I can. Any beginner threads you specifically recommend I read?

Not off hand. I would have to do some searching.

Flipping domains is not as easy as it sounds. You might think a domain is catchy and a real solid domain but then you have to find someone else that thinks the same thing and actually wants to buy it which is the hard part.

Stocks, any tips for beginners? Do you recommend fleshing out a site first and building traffic?

If you've got the time, definitely build out the sites before flipping them. I've had great success flipping websites, and the key is to have some sort of revenue coming in.
You can flip domains too, if you are very good at spotting them, but as Stocks said it's very difficult to make much money with "day flips".

My advice would be to take your few best domains and develop them and look long term. Having a few developed sites making steady revenue is a lot better than selling a few domain names here and there.
Also like Kyle said develop a domain before you flip it I think the profit margins are a lot higher.

If a domain name is really good, I'm reluctant to flip it. The ROI is great and all, but at the same time, I can build out a site with a great domain, and I generate revenue from the site for months or years, and I still have the domain after I've made all that money.
If I really like a domain, then I usually need a pretty big dollar amount to even consider selling it.

I make most of my money via poker domains. I can offer you a special discounted rate on my registrar if you are going to be investing in domains.
I have a portfolio of over 2300 domains and allot of experience with
domains issues and what sells.
