Hey

Can someone tell me the right steps for this?
I want to move my site from a host to a new one.

Currently on my old host i excedeed the band limit for this month
Does this affect the move process? I mean I cant back up anything now... can't access control panel -of course.

So what do i have to do? Enter FTP and copy everything from there to my hard disk and then upload to new server?
Will it work?
Or do I know to mess with some mysql databases and some passwords?
Also I have a vbulletin forum installed...

Help me with this

Thanks

Why not just pay for more bandwidth?

seems like the easiest solution to me.

You need to make sure you have a copy of all your files for your site.

Buy a new hosting service first.

Then have the old host point the DNS entries to the new host.

Upload files to the new host.

Cancel your old host once you have tested your site on the new host.

Best Regards,

Mark

Since you are using a database just copying the FTP files and uploading them won't do the trick. You are going to have to dump the database as well and then read it into a database on the new server (Google it).

If you are moving to a good hosting company, personally I recommend Hostgator.com, then it's quite possible that they might be able to assist you in making sure the transfer goes smoothly. Just ask them.
