Ideal Affiliate Program

I am doing a bit of research, and thought I would post this question to this group since this is such a large community of the most successful affiliates out there.

IF you were designing an affiliate program, what features/benefits would you put in your program? What things do you like best about the different programs that you promote? Who currently has the best affiliate program? What do you like about it, and is there anything you would change about it? Basically what would be your ideal affiliate program?

Remember, the site obviously has to make money, so 100% of the rake is not a practical answer.
