Having a partner for a gambling affiliate site
Hey,
I think it is time I work with a partner for one of my sites.
I have too much going on right now and I don't have enough time for some of my sites.
I worked with partners before and it didn't work out well but I don't really see any other options for this site to be honest.
The site is GamblingAffiliatez.com and is for general gambling affiliates so I do need to partner with someone experienced in the market.
How would a partnership work best in terms of sharing the work and the revenue?
I am not too worried about making any profit on it while it is getting started to be honest.
Does anyone here have any advise, thoughts or opinions on working with a partner on a site?
The site design is 100% complete and coded with vbulletin and vbulletin advanced as a CMS but apart from that I haven't done any other work on it.
Again, I am looking for a partner because I don't have enough time to work on this myself so the partner will have to do most of the work itself.
Thanks
John

I just want to bump this thread because I think this is an interesting topic. I am also considering adding partners to my group and I was wondering what kind of experiences (good and bad) people have with partners.

Here's an honest opinion-
You're diving into a crowded space in an uncertain market. I'd rather use my energy driving new players to new sites because it's far more profitable then trying to find a new affiliate that will be as profitable. For every 10 RMP's I send to a site, typically one of them will be a long term profitable player. You won't see that same % in the affiliate world, period. In fact, you'll be lucky to have 1 out of every 100 become a producing, long term affiliate. Most people just don't have what it takes nor do they have the patience to build critical mass.
I'd suggest finding a new project.

I think there is still space in the affiliate side of things for general gambling.
In regards to making revenue from sites targeted towards affiliates there would be a lot of other options instead of just going down the sub-affiliate road, I don't even affiliate right now on my own poker sites

You know what Todd said was very true. I think there is a misconception that "most" affiliates who sign up to promote a gambling brand actually earn money. I believe this forum is full of good affiliates that do NOT represent a true picture of affiliate production.
1 out of 100 might be a little off, but it is very common in most gambling affiliate programs that about 20% of affiliates who sign up ever earn $1 from a program. Like Todd said, building critical mass takes time, patience and an understanding of driving traffic.
With that said I would take this advice. Send players to a site that gets to the point and doesnt slam them with banner upon banner. Put something original up, even if it only appeals to a small demographic. If you're going to devote time and resources do so driving up traffic and building your SEO.
Maybe try some building up (or buying) some quality text links or PPC ads.
Best of Luck!

I am in it for the long run so making revenue when its building up really isn't a concern for me, that is why I thought having a partner would make it even harder, I'm sure most people working on sites want to see a return a lot quicker than I expect it.
I have hired people to work on my sites before and when it comes to hiring people to build up and manage a site, I have always had very bad results.
Has anyone hired people to manage the general running of their sites with good results? I think managing a site only works if you have motivation and know the subject/industry well.

I have had the same partner for every project I've worked on. We were friends even before we started internet marketing, so I think that's why it's worked out so well.
I can't recall a single fight we've had, there's rarely even a serious dispute.
I think it's great to have a partner though, because when we start bouncing ideas off eachother we always come up with something new and creative that we wouldn't have thought of if it has just been one of us.
My advice to you is if you are going to partner with someone, get to know them first to make sure you get along with them. A person can be really brilliant, but if they're arrogant/self centered you're going to find it really hard to work with him.
Good luck with your project.
