A lot of good poker players are also chess, backgammon, and bridge players. I started speaking with some owners of popular bridge, chess, and backgammon sites. Im trying to convince them of the benefits of promoting poker. I have had some success. 2 sites will become subs of mine and in return I write some content for them to post on their site and write some pr releases for them. Seems like a good opportunity.

I posted this also in another thread but I felt it would be good to post here as well. Never underestimate the power of offline advertising. This is directly from my book and one of my more successful offline marketing campaigns that I did in Indy at a huge firefighter convention.
Quote:
One other unique but crazy thing I did was made up business cards that were also firefighter related with my Bonus Code on it and placed them on the urinals at all of the bars! My friend thought this was crazy but WOW, this got me a great deal of exposure. If I had to guess, this is what attributed to the most success of that weekend. Think about it, when guys are at a bar they are certainly going to use the bathroom at least a few times throughout the evening. I can tell you as a guy that when you’re standing at a urinal doing your business, there is really not much more to look at. Now any firefighter who played poker even occasionally was certainly going to have their interest sparked and more than likely pick up a card.
The following week after this promotion I had 27 real money sign-ups at Party Poker. Keep in mind though I had exposure to over a thousand firefighters. As you can see promoting Party Poker offline is not rocket science. It really comes down to thinking outside the box and trying new things. I will go over niche marketing more in the online promotion section, but this is a MUST for offline marketing as well.
I love using the firefighter example because it shows that you need to focus on a certain niche and do things that are going to appeal to that niche. If I had just placed banners and cards that said Party Poker on them around Indianapolis that weekend, most people would probably not have paid any attention. But because I had flames, fire trucks, cards, and cash on the fliers they tweaked the interest of firefighters, especially those who were poker players

How are you printing biz cards? When I tried printing out the ones I downloaded from PP web site, It was cropped so it wouldnt print a business card sized image. I could print the whole thing on a full sheet of paper, but that wont work. I really want to ramp up my offline promotions and i thought about tapping into the local hotel scene and finding out the schedule for various conventions. I figure there are usually hundreds of people coming through town weekly.
Is there ever any problem with having the biz cards/pahlets taken down by management in any of these places?
Also, has anyone had any luck with promoting on ebay?
Thanks

If you email Party they will send you flyers and cards in the mail, all you have to do is add your code. I just got another batch today...they are very nice, but best of all FREE!
The cards I have been printing myself and will be getting printed professionally on one side have the ace of spades and on the other side I have some small, to the point sentences inticing players to visit my website.
As for eBay, I tried this a few times with no success. Traffic is starting to flow to my sites now from SE's and Link Exchanges, but my main concentration is offline ads using cards and flyers.

Hello. Thank you Jeremy for your book. Lots of great ideas. Maybe this is one that could be added.
The basic tenet of niche marketing is to create a mailing list and leverage its potential to make sales on a continued basis.
The best way to get someones email is to offer them something, like a story about Dead Man's Hand, The Top 10 On-Line Poker Tips, etc, and send it to the email address they give you. Armed with this list, you could promote numerous affiliate poker rooms and products like DVDs, books, etc. on a scheduled basis through the use of autoresponders.
If you have a site for Day Traders (like Poker Bulls) you could leverage this list even further by cross-promoting with other Internet Marketers who have their own lists related to your Niche Poker Site. For example, someone who runs a FOREX trading site should have a list of people. You market their product to your niche list of Day Traders and they do the same with yours. You send these prospects through the same channel (i.e. Free Product sent by email) to add them to your list.
The other positive is that you can survey your list to uncover other interests that your list members have and cross-promote with other Internet Marketers who provide those services/products or set-up another niche business for yourself.
Keep the ideas coming.
Jason

This is an addition to the offline marketing bookstore / bookmark campaign. Anyone think of libraries? My local library has poker books to be checked out and you could reach some potential onliners this way. Just another option to add to the offline marketing.
