hi
I had a tournie (freeroll) as did loads of other private ones and the normal ones running on the server that crashed
affected players contacted me to say they had received $20 free from poker.com (bear in mind most would have been freerollers as with all sites they're majority) and were totally impressed with poker.com doing this rather than the usual other sites approach which is players loose buy-in and never gets sorted out (swept under carpet)
basically as an affiliate for players they have put 40% of the $20 as a negative on accounts - which seems IMHO totally fair
obviously I had some players who signed up and so will have -$8 on each of them and other affiliates will have -$8 per player on their accounts
But look at it this way it's a bonus which needs working off and will generate rake which you will get paid for - IMHO it was a good way of handling it from both poker.com and affiliates POV
now freerollers will be more likely to re-deposit to chase the bonus and play for proper own cash and be generating rake off the $20 + future deposits which they may never have done without it
on the flip side I've only just made positive account on another poker site who I was trying a $5 free promo with (never again)
but I would look at as a good thing on the whole
Much rather take a 40% hit to make 40% of profit over long term on more active players than have sites like
FTP hit aff with costs of hats etc (which does seem wrong to me)
iffy chargebacks are bad but dont see poker.com have done this - we get 40% of profit and 40% of associated promos - if they started charging us 40% of their electric bill that would be different
cheers scrawnybob
