Lightbulb It's Official - This is my life!

Hey all,

Just wanted to put out word, that I have let go of my full-time job to affiliate. I still might do some part-time work away from this, but now my focus is on affiliating.

I hope I am not a complete idiot for the timing of it, but something tells me that anything is possible.

Maybe we can let this thread become the FULL-TIME AFFILIATING thread. Any motivational words / suggestions / tips for doing this every day can be posted here.

I will start the ball rolling, by saying it has been hard since I made the decision (about 2 weeks now) to really motivate myself to put the extra (full-time) into it. Especially with Christmas stuff and paperwork for my old job. So, I guess the first tip is:

AVOID PROCRASTINATION - our biggest enemy!

Cheers,
Look forward to communicating with you all more often!

Good luck to you sir. The first thing you'll find is that you will hate it when you are sick. While before it was as easy as calling into the office and saying "Can't come in today, got the flu", even when you're so sick you're at deaths door, it's still very hard to stay off the computer when it's just sitting there, as so easy to sit down and do work

Also for your own sanity I recommend trying to set a 9-5 or whatever schedule and sticking to it. It helps you really get to work, as well as stay away from overworking(which is always my biggest problem). If you can create a home office(if you don't have one already) that's an idea I heartily recommend.

This is a must. Overworking is something I have to work on, set a schedule and work within those hours.

Here are some other things that I feel you MUST do. (No offense to the board on the first one)
1. Do not read the boards until your work is done, this also includes your yahoo, msn homepage news etc. This is time consuming and isn't making you money. (The posts are valuable, but take it in at the end of the day, and use it tomorrow)

2. When you set your hours - shut off your phone (at least have caller id) or notify friends and family of the hours you are working (sounds harsh, but you need to work, not chat)

3. Write down your goals (somewhere you can see them every day)

4. DO NOT CHECK YOUR STATS every day - This business is truly about building, writing new articles, submitting links etc. It will take time and checking your links daily will discourage most.

5. When you get burned out, or discouraged, take a break. Get outside... do a 1/2 hour walk, go to the gym etc. stay active keep your mind fresh

6. Do something with your affiliate site(s) everyday, even if it is small. Write an article, trade a hard link, add a banner. Something is better than nothing.

I remember reading Georgia Poker's post about his Mike Matusow blog, and I felt the same way. Typing to the wall. But, that is proof that work pays off. I hope this helps, I have been online affiliating for 4 years now after losing my job, and have come a long way. #1 it hasn't been easy, and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but you can (and will) make great money by working hard.

I strongly agree; spending a few hundred dollars a month to have small little office a mile away from my house is the best investment I've ever made. The first 3 months of working on this stuff full time I tried to do it from home, and that was really difficult. Sometimes its really import to be able to leave work and go home and you can't do that when its all jumbled together. Plus it forces you to actually shower and get dressed each day

Keeping track of ALL expenses now. ALL income and expenses need to be checked and double checked.

Congrats!

Here is my schedule and with doing this everyday I can assure you it's not the way to go:

Wake up : ? 1 pm - 5pm
Start work: right away
2 hours later: breakfast
Back to work: roughly 6pm
lunch then Go out to bar/club/friends: 9pm - 3 am
Dinner: 4am
Work: 4am - 9am
Sleep: 9 am

That gives me time to talk with people all around the world, literally in any time zone at some point in the day.

This is 7 days a week by the way. Seriously it's rough.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I transferred home for this semester of college to work about 25-30 hours a week (not full time, but a huge improvement from before). I just wasn't able to do that in my freshman dorm (way to much immaturity and distractions).

So, I'm going to finish off this next semester at home and then possible get an apartment, but until then I'm making an office at home. I can either have my office in my room or in the basement.

So, does it matter if I put my office in my room or would it be better in the basement. I just think my room would be a better environment (temperature, window, ect...).

So I guess 25-30 hours a week with college is a full time job to me. I just hope everything goes as planned.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Kyle,

I am kinda like you, except a little less "partying/bar"...I am just wondering about the importance of "getting sun"...I have heard it is essential to good health.

Right now, here is my plan:

Sleep - 3 am to 10 am
Check email/stats/etc... 10-11am
Breakfast and shower 11am-noon
Shift #1 - Noon - 4pm
Linner (lunch/dinner) - 4pm
Get outside/work out/shop - 4 -7pm
Hang out with girlfriend or watch sports - 7-11pm
Shift #2 - 11pm - 3am

Waddya think?

My plan is also to work Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri and one off and on during the weekend with the plan to make Wednesday a day for myself and recereation (ie, clean up at home, watch some movies, go somewhere non-business related).

Hope this works.

I am just wondering if I should do a little of everything each day or try to set aside a day for "content", "links", "etc...". Is there a point to that?

Thanks for the great posts everyone!! Would love to hear Jeremy's and PPP's and ADIO's take on this.
