Default Google Page Rank

If you have been following any of the Google Page rank discussions on the various webmaster blogs and forums over the last couple weeks, then you know all the controversy going on.

I just noticed that PAW lost pagerank tonight as well. To be honest I really don't care, I don't sell links and I doubt it will affect any traffic.

I guess what confuses me is why someone as powerful as google that relies on their webmasters for a bulk of their income (Adsense, Adwords) would want to piss off hundreds of thousands of their customers with something as trivial as a pagerank bar.

I think the majority of webmasters are starting to put the pagerank bar in the same category as the alexa bar. This is sad.

Wow 5 to 3 on home page, 4 to 3 on forums.

Bullshit.

IMO pagerank has always been overvalued. When I started up I wasted far too much time and money trying to build my sites pagerank. The simple fact is pagerank does relate to the traffic of the site so in my mind it is not worth 2 cents.

Yes this PR update really was weird.

One of my main sites was a stable PR5 for well over a year and this update it dropped down to PR3 despite the fact that I've significantly built the quality links pointing at the site and that I don't sell links or advertising on the site.

It really doesn't bother me too much, my search engine rankings and traffic are at an all time high and continue to strengthen so I can live with a smaller PR bar at the top of the browser.

I guess the only thing it really affects is the link exchange / proposition power.

I think with a longterm view when PR was introduced it was a good indicator of how long you'd stay well ranked for targeted keywords. Higher PR definitely gave a consistency to results ime.

That's when PR started getting 'sold' and it was devalued to the nothing it is today. A few of my sites saw a drop too, thankfully it no longer concerns me although it's pretty sad to lose a PR6 when it meant so much for so long

Getting #1 with a PR0 for a worthwhile 3+ keyphrase is extremely doable now which helps with new-site-motivation.

Wow... PAW got dinged pretty bad. I have managed to somewhat sneak through this update so far. My homepage has not been affected but some of my internal PR4 pages were dropped to 3s. But who knows, I may still be on a list. Either way, not really a big deal IMO.

The PR update has been great for me. I had a site go to pr6 (not gambling related) and my main site went up to pr4.

PR update has been great for me. I know everyone says it doesn't mean anything, but now I can use it to my advantage in link propositions and such. Really happy with the way things have turned out.
