Default You wrote a great piece of content - How do YOU get links?

I think there's a lot of talk around here that makes it seem like it's easy to get links when you write good content. I think that's true if you...

A. Know a lot of people in the industry
B. Have a site that ranks very well already
C. Have a forum where your members will talk about your stuff on their blogs/sites
D. Have a large budget and you can buy links

I think it's tough to grab links to good content if you don't have any of resources above. Honestly this is one area where I really struggle, so I dont have much advice to give....

What would you do to get links to a great piece of content?

I agree with you. It's actually very difficult to get good links just stemming from good content. It may come in time, but to do it quickly is a highly valuable skill.

One idea I can pass on is sign up for a site like http://www.socialposter.com which you can zoom through pretty fast after you have the accounts set up. Then you can post to 40 or more social networks with a few clicks. I usually submit a good article to all of them. If your article is good, it can really take off on one of the major bookmarking sites and that will get some decent backlinks. Usually at least one very good one and a bunch of poor - above average links. Some people simply troll the social bookmarking sites for interesting blog posts and will likely link out.

Also, the best site to hit the front page to gain links is still Digg. I would suggest submitting to all the sites but Digg, and hope a superuser on Digg decides to submit your story. It's becoming quite the pompous click over there and you need some reputation to see a story go hot.

I should emphasize the value of link bait. Some of the top link baiters charge $5000/article with absolutely no guarantees.

I love stumble.. I stumble everything I personally think is worth reading. Hadn't heard of Social Poster, but I betchya I'll be checking that out today.

I like digg, it's not great, but I digg now n then. If I'm blogging, I submit all my blogs to Google blogs, I get lots of RSS feeders that way. I also submit all of my blogs to Technorati

I submit articles, but not as much as I used to, more people seem to use them without the links than with.

I use stumble like crazy now but no longer for a poker room( which I guess submitting that could be classified as spam), instead I am using it to promote my strategy writer in hopes of getting some users to start emailing and linking, and I am seeing 100+ vistors each day from Stumble which is a hell of alot more than if I was to post about a poker room.

For anyone who hasnt noticed yet Stumble upon and facebook are interlinked so you can show your stumble pages in Facebook and also have other FB members search SU through FB. First application I have seen FB introduce that wasnt garbage (at least for me anyway)

I still like Netscape, Backflip, Bluedot, Spurl and use ma.gnolia for a backlink.
