Default Need Help with Keywords

God I hate SEO... So time consuming!

Anyway, I want to set my pages with better keywords as I currenlty use an automated keyword generator that works so so. Every poker article page I have will have its own set of keywords. I am wondering a few things.

1. how many keywords I should generally use?

2. how many times I should use the word "poker"? For example, if I set keywords like this:

poker tables, poker freerolls, poker strategy, online poker, poker room reviews, poker supplies, poker chips, etc...

Does using the word "poker" over and over have negative impacts? If it shows up 20 times in one page, do search engines penalize you? I have read a while back that a keyword shouldn't be repeated more than 3 times but I don't know if that's true.

3. My homepage content changes constantly. Should I stick with more generic/static keywords that are based on my navigation structure or should I use dynamic keywords based on the featured content?

Thanks for all you help!

Keyword tags are not very important, especially to google. I have read recently that even the description tag will not help your rankings (for google). I always use them because they certainly can't hurt. You should only use the word poker once though like this:

poker, tables, freerolls, strategy, online, room reviews, supplies, chips

There's a good tool here for cleaning up your tags. Most people say to use common misspellings and such for your keyword tags.

The disc. tag is important but not in terms of boosting your serp rankings. You should look at your description tag as a sales pitch to try and get searchers to click your link instead of others...if Google even decides to use your tag as a snippet, otherwise it means nothing for Google.

A description tag should be there, and if there should say something sensible.

The keyword tag is not used at all by google and MSN, so it is only for yahoo, and then not very important to them. Keywords are unique so you have to do:
poker, strategy, poker strategy, games, poker games, etc...

All without stuffing, so you shouldn't say poker more than 3-5 times (look that up urself, the # is not a quote :P )

What qualifys as sensible? Seems relative to me hehe

Everytime I ask this question, I get these two conflicting answers! lol

Thanks for all the info, I will look into the links posted.

That's OK. Besides, did you know that 73% of statistics are made up?

lol probably higher than that on the internet!

I'd suggest to use keywords like PPP described, repeat as many times as makes sense. I usually use 8-15 relevant keywords/phrases per page.

Like to know "who" said description tags aren't useful anymore?
I double dog dare'em to get rid of'em
Smells like link bait to me.

IMO, take the time to create unique & relevant descriptions for each page.
Spread the relevancy across the various page elements, title, metas, H tags, content & you'll see good results.

My info comes from Google. They didn't say desc. tags are not useful and all I said is they won't improve your position in the Google serps like some people seem to believe.
Here's a quote:

Quote:
While the use of a description **** tag is optional and will have no effect on your rankings, a good description can result in a better snippet
