A good point was brought up about the media outlets that cover the event. For them this is really bad. I remember when PokerNews covered it with Live reporting they had people fly in from Australia and hired several staff just for the event.
I am sure places like Cardplayer, Pokerlistings, Bluff, and many of the other media outlets do the same.
This is the equivalent of running the Daytona 500 and having all the cars quit at 490 laps. Bring them back in 3 months and put them in the same positions, it's still a whole new race and cars can be studied, tweaked, and dialed in different.
When it's all said and done, the WSOP is supposed to be about the tournament and the players. It's not about how to draw more network advertising, hype, poker awareness, endorsement deals, and all the other "positive" things being brought up.
See it for what it is, ESPN and Harrahs trying to extract more money for themselves from the WSOP brand.
