Less Links - Google Penalty Backfire.

Have you guys noticed that since Google started cracking down on paid links you get a lot less organic links?

Most of the links we do see these days are redirected through a robots.txt or are nofollow, google has created a fear of linking with the new penalties, almost exactly the opposite of their goal.

Most of the backlinks I see now via the wordpress stats plugin are from sites that display google results just short copies of descriptions.

I get other links, but they never show up as backlinks..

Curious whether or not you used yahoo to check your backlinks rather than google?

Google is where they don't show up well actually just searching google for links, they show up in google webmasters and in yahoo. In actual google results, I show like 15 backlinks and most of them are internal.

Searching for backlinks via Google is fruitless. They are notoriously slow at updating backlinks. This is one thing where Yahoo is actually a better alternative. If you have new links, it's a good bet you won't find them on Google.
