Well a few comments here I guess
A lot of things "everyone" is doing actually do work, although I agree that you also need to think outside the box if you want to stand out. A good way to do this, and something I always do, is to look at higher competitors and look for patterns. If you're good at distilling this stuff you can end up with a "best of" that can make a significant difference. As far as gaming the search engines as the Jerk puts it, as I've said you really can't ignore them either and you really want to address both. If you primarily appeal to visitors and do it properly then this actually will be a big part of your search engine strategy, meaning good content will bring results by itself, however only if you have some other ducks in a row and some of these ducks are the ones the SE's like So really ideally you want to consider both although your primary focus needs to do what your web site is supposed to do, provide quality information on your topics. It`s a lot like a selling at a carnival where you have the barker out front which may attract some interest but you better have the goods when they come inside.

That honestly wasn't our intention. We were just looking for something cool to talk about. I'm sorry if it came across as an attempt to win a debate one-sidedly; that honestly wasn't our intention.
In fact, I thought our look at the 26 steps on the radio show pointed out exactly which of those steps were now obsolete and why. (Like "submitting" your site to Fast and Hotbot for example.) But I'm really sorry you feel like we were trying to win an argument one-sidedly. I welcome you to come on to the radio show next week if you like. We can talk about anything you like, including these 26 steps. |
