Default What Is Your Best SEO Tip ?

Hi Folks,

I want these to be unconventional SEO tips. Little things you do to tweak your sites that others may not know about. Not basic stuff like adding alt tags to images. I think this thread will be of great SEO value when we add up all these atypical little tips.

I start:

Submit your RSS Feeds to directories like feedage, rss2.com etc.. to get backlinks every time you post

Here is another:

Link out to relevant authority websites using your keywords for the anchor text.

Yeah,

Google scans the anchor text for both ingoing links and outgoing links. If you are trying to rank for "online poker" I would link out to the Wikipedia entry with "online poker" for the anchor text.

It seems like common sense. Google looks at the sites you link to in order to understand what your site is about. I do it anyways, I think it helps a little bit.

EDIT: Do you have a tip ?

Im not entierly sure, but if you're being a genuine resource you are going to happily provide links to other websites with similiar/more information. Therefore your page will be more beneficial to the guy searching for your keyword in the search engine.

You're not going to actively shoot yourself in the foot, but at the same time you are giving Google a reason to value your content more. In faireness though, I am quite far from being SEO guru, so take my opinions with a large grain of salt.

Sebastien advice makes sense to me, although the points i make below are not necessarily SEO focused
  1. he does not send traffic to a competitor, but to an additional source which do their stuff better than anyone else
  2. the site he redirects the visitor has a great value
  3. the perception of Sebastien's site by his visitor will be higher as he establishes himself as a great source of info
  4. he might get a link back from the site where he links to
Note that point 4 does not necessary apply to Wikipedia but there might be other authoritative sites out there doing good for you.

Here's another one:

Use synonyms of the keyword you are trying to rank for in your post.

Identify long search keyword terms. Using googles insite and webmaster keyword suggestions tools combined to search for longer keywords terms, include these in your meta data and manage your content to optimize for these terms. Discovering longer term search terms may be easier to rank for than highly competitive single keywords.

From Jeremy E's blog I believe; Outgoing clickthrough rates do matter.

Dunno if he said this as well, but I know I have heard Matt Cutts say it; when a user clicks through a link to another site, google will see them on the other side, they will see where that user came from, and they will follow that user's path backwards to the site they came from.
