Default If you were CEO of Yahoo...

It's no secret that Yahoo isn't doing very well, business-wise. Suppose you were CEO of Yahoo. What would you try to do in order to turn things around?

Fire whoever is responsible for their Search filtering and results, and put a team together that understood that people want a degree of relavancy in their search results. Yahoo is so spammy it's almost useless!

Hell no Actually there is gambling advertising on Yahoo but you have to approach it sideways and have a very sanitized landing page - preferably even another domain, with some links back to daddy. If you check their bid prices though even though they don't allow ads for gambling they are way too high anyway. You can't optimize the ads though which is why I don't use it anymore. On the other hand I prefer not having to compete with this stuff thank you very much

Hey Ken

I couldn't agree more - but I was referring to Yahoo's point of view... Prices woudl jump back up to $20-$30 per click.

If i was the SEO of yahoo I would look at the market in the UK.

Yahoo and BT (UK's main telephone company have teamed up)

I would ask why my market share hasnt jumped dramatically and overtaken google in the UK.

I would then come to the conclusion that my search engines have a lot of work to do.

I would pick out the top 100 keywords and compare our rankings to google.

I would compare 100 spammy terms and compare them to google.

I would work out how I can improve my search engine and make it more targeted.

IMO, the only difference in the 2 SE's is the amount of spam. Yahoo can base their success on the UK because that is the first port of call for many UK browsers due to their connection with BT. If they cannot answer their own questions, they are wasting their time.

I think yahoo will bounce back, but it will take a bit of time

Well yeah of course Stephen, however I was commenting from my own point of view there

It's such a hoot that search engines are so damn stupid when it comes to this actually. Poker's totally mainstream in the media now, not that it was that far out even in the old days.

I signed up for another Overture account or whatever the hell they call it now - Yahoo Search Marketing I guess - not that long ago so I could place an outrageously gamblingesque ad - click if you're looking to sign up at an online poker room - just so I could razz them some more when they rejected it. Again though I prefer they don't allow them

I would work on the search results relevance as someone already mentioned in here, since it's really going downhill and it's been doing so for ages. Another thing they should look into would be opening Yahoo Publisher to the outside people, not just USA and Canada. Google Adsense/Adwords is having still a great success because all people can use it, no matter what country they are in.

I would spend some time looking into why my site gets almost all of it's traffic from Google, as in 95% for Google and 3-4% for Yahoo. Not that I really care that much but this is pretty whacked. This is only partly a joke actually as they really need to look at how the big dog does it more and try to come closer at least which means try to weed out the less relevant results more
