Lightbulb Recession and poker

The economy in the world is so unpredictable that you never know what comes next. Online gambling is also getting banned in more and more countries.

What can we do next?
Maybe we could look for other niches. At least this is what I am doing now. I have read a lot in the last 30 days about internet marketing and diversification is what I (am maybe you) need. Google could change their algorithms again, you could get penalized .....

You never know what happens so I recommend you:

- buy a second hosting account, create websites on that
- search for a new niche and try to be at least mediocre in it
- diversify your traffic
- build a list with your players
- create a new account on another domain registrar

Diversification is what we need on these times.
Remember success and money makes you crazy. DO SOMETHING NOW!
Just my opinion

Well first of all the recession isn't affecting everyone of course and we don't want to look at things too broadly here. Some people have lost their jobs, some other people have businesses that have suffered, some other people lost some money in the market, some people haven't been affected at all, some people have actually profited here. Gaming is fairly recession proof and poker in particular. You lose some but you gain some. For instance someone who is now unemployed may look to poker for additional income or at least to try to get some. Since it doesn't necessarily take a lot of money to start this is an option for a lot of people. Others may play more with more time on their hands. Etc.

As for the industry being in any kind of real trouble I really don't see it. Countries may try to ban it as the U.S. did but it's a paper tiger really and the best they can do is throw minor inconveniences at people like having to go to the store and buy a prepaid card, or having to wait for a check to come in the mail.

However they say that if you can make money in the online gaming industry you can make money at pretty much anything online. Certainly the field is very competitive and it's like lifting heavy weights, where the lighter ones are even lighter because you've gotten stronger.

My outlook here though is a positive one at least for poker and probably other forms of gambling as well. The industry as a whole is growing, the online end of it is growing, and the demand has been around since the cave man and will always be there, since it's in man's nature to want to gamble. Now we're gambling too here but on our end it's a pretty good gamble I'd say

Default Diversification

Diversification is always good. Non poker related sites are not selling well either. Now is the time to buy if you have money. If you don;t have money, now is the time to work part time on top of promoting poker.

I don't think that the recession is going to have a huge impact on poker affiliates. But I agree that diversification is a good thing indeed. One of my plans for 2009 is to continue to work on some of my other sites in other niches. I'm a fan of the dating niche, myself, and I also like having a broad-themed site where I can write about anything.

Another very good reason to diversify-
Create a food critique blog - write off your food expenses
Create a toys and games blog - write off your toys you buy your kids
Create gas mileage blog - write off you gas expences
Create fashion blog - write off your personal clothes as business expense.

Talk to your accountant before doing this. You will have to post about any food or clothes you buy, but it will be a business expense.
