Default Google position Dropping fast

I'm building a new site, www.pokerteacher.org, and when google first displayed it, it ranked 24 for the search term "poker teacher" a week later it had fallen to 74 for this term and now, after two weeks it's fallen to 89. All i've done in this time is add original content and links, so i've no idea what's causing the drop. I'm actually trying to rank for the term "learn to play poker" which is most of my links anchor text, and can't rank for it at all in the top 1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's normal to see an intial listing followed by a serious drop and sometimes right off the table. Google gives you a little tease then makes you work for it to get it back. This is the likely cause although you do want to pay close attention to what you're doing differently at the same time.

In the end being #24 for poker teacher won't get you a lot of traffic anyway and you need to be aiming for the top 3 spots for this and you need to be patient. It's not a particularly competitive term but you will have to outdo your competition to get there and it's never too early to start putting together a strategy for that.

In terms of the site, as you go along, in order to have success you should focus more on things that visitors really can't get elsewhere. You can still have a "I've never played hold'em before" section but look to focus more on "secrets" as you go along.

yea i agree with Ken on this, i ranked really well on my sites when i first started. Then i dropped 4 or 5 pages, then you have to build up links, social book marking and new content on the subjects.

There are various ways to improve your ranking, its just finding what works for you.

Maybe you can share your social bookmarking skills with the forum Tom, mine's limited to bookmarkign the home page on the popular ones then thinking what a $%&*ing waste of time that was My thinking has been that you need a spammer amount of these to make any difference and haven't figured out how to spam the stuff

Start with changing your anchor text in you signature. Link the word "Poker teacher" instead of just putting in your link.
