Default To Tweet or Not to Tweet?

Hi all,

So I just got back from a social media event called "Too Tweet or Not to Tweet", which I told some you I would report on after it finished.

Overall, it was a resounding yes-Twitter is a good thing (surprise, surprise). To be honest, there wasn't a ton of new stuff that I learned there, but still want to pass off the highlights:

-Twitter has grown by 752% from the start to the end of 2008. From Feb '08 to Feb '09 there has been a 1,018% increase in vistits to Twitter

-Average age of someone on Twitter is 25-55+ (compared to teens on Facebook)

-Twitter is the cover of this week's Time Magazine-should prob be checked out!

-Should be used to increase loyalty and retention with customers/players

-Think of the way you write like if you were at a dinner party- "don't pimp yourself", ie. no one likes the guy who just talks about one thing or how awesome he is, be multi-fascited and give to a bunch of discussions.

-TweetDeck (which I've mentioned in other threads) is the best option out there to manage your Twitter account. Another great one is TweetWorks, that tries to connect people in a community, kind of like a forum

-Use tweetstats.com to look into more detail about your account and others.

Alright, that's if from me for now! It was generally a good time-the guy who is the official Tweeter for Dunkin Donuts was pretty interesting.

Got Twitter questions? Ask away!

Regards,

Tanya

Hi Tanya,

Thanks for the information. Always good to know.

Since we are in the Twitter theme, I have something else to add to it if anyone is looking for "Twitter Tips"

Thanks
Karen

I haven't heard of any poker affiliates making any money from this thogh so the jury's still out and I'm still not sure what the hell this is even after watching that vid

So it's posting a bunch of babble and hope people follow you to your tweet page for more of the same?

Exactly. Sometimes it's actually funny and interesting, like Shaq's page. But it can also be obnoxious, as it makes a lot of people feel waaay too important thinking all of their random, contrived musings are worth publishing. Ultimately, you can just follow the myspace/facebook way and just mass friend to gain plenty of exposure.

The main message I got out of this is that twitter is to show you, or your brand's personality. It's to help your players to connect with you in a way they might not do through a website. It's a way to let them into your life, and also for you to guide them to things you think they may enjoy. The more trust=the more they hang around=referrals and retention. You'll never see a $ sign to how helpful twitter is, but it's free, so it's not like your losing anything.

I have to say from my perspective, twitter has kept me in the know about a lot of things. For example, one of my affiliates was having trouble with his password to an EVP tournament, which I found out about right away on a Sunday thanks to twitter. I know more about affiliates and another AMs through the service as well. It is really worth a try, but you've got to commit to really giving it a chance!

Ok, there goes my halftime football speech issues again! Have a great weekend everyone!

-Tanya

Seems to be working pretty well for you Tanya which is cool. We're more like wolves who require a steady diet of prey and this might be a little too tame

I have been tweeting for a bit and I have about 300 followers. Mostly I talk about news that I think affiliates will care about. When I check the links I usually have about 5-10 clicks per tweet, so its not a huge conversion, but I'm happy with it. Of course, I'm not using it for affiliate purposes. If you do sign up, feel free to follow me.

I opened a Twitter but I think it takes a certain personality to keep it updated. I know a number of people who are really full of themselves who spend all day trying to think of witty ways to gloat about their lives. Maybe I'm just not that exciting

Yeah it takes a certain personality I guess and it's the Rockin Robin personality - tweet tweet. Which means either Michael Jackson or that chick with the tattoos on American Idol

I wonder what my tweets would look like:

Come on you kids ask your Dad for some poker money and quit fooling around with play money....

Be a man Johnny and play the real money games....

Your girlfriend will think you are very cool - a gambler, a poker player, yeah baby!

Now that you've had a few lessons what the hell are you waiting for, go out and stomp on some fools!!!......
