Sorry to presume that

The thing about Adwords is that first of all you need to have a really good converting site to make this work for you but if you do then you can do well. Think of it as competing with similar sites in terms of ROI and yours needs to be real good or else you'll end up paying too much for the clicks. There's actually quite a bit to this and there's all sorts of info on the net and I'd do my homework first and then do some small test campaigns to refine my strategy.

I can give you a good personal tip here and that's not to go after quantity of clicks but to focus on quality instead, and depending on how well you do you can focus on more quantity later. This often means paying less per click but mostly it gets you to focus on targetting your ad so that folks more likely to convert will do most of the clicking. Here's an extreme example. Let's say I've got some poker lessons on my site and some banners for poker rooms. I could say click here for some great poker lessons and get a lot more clicks and a small percentage will convert. Here's 3 examples of the approaches I could take:

1. Click here to get some free poker lessons from an online pro
2. Click here for some great bonus offers at top poker rooms
3. Click here to get top bonus at Full Tilt Poker
4. Ready to open a real money account and deposit at Full Tilt Poker? Click here to get the top bonus payout.

Now, you can see that the stuff gets more and more targetted and the ideal one is 4 since it's most likely to convert. So you want to think of this in terms of you're buying these clicks and they will cost you a fair but so the more ROI you can get on average from them the better you'll do and then you can look to shoot for maximum ROI later meaning diluting the ad to bring more clicks and do more selling on page but in the mean time you want less clicks not more and that will usually be an advantage over your competition.
