I helped promote and I also played in a poker event for charity this past Saturday. It was for Angels in Atlanta, a charity that helps families when their children are battling cancer. Before I played in this tourney I was working with the event organizer and she told a story of a young couple who's child recently lost her battle with cancer. The group from Angels in Atlanta had provided them home cooked meals and support during this trying time.
Skip ahead to me playing in the tourney and to my right is a young man named Alan. As I'm steaming over a bad beat I make small talk with him and ask how he heard about the tourney. He said that he knows the folks from Angels in Atlanta well as they had helped him while his daughter was battling cancer. He didn't finish the story but it stuck me that HE was the father of the young girl who had recently lost her battle with cancer. He was still supporting the charity that supported him and his family, even though he knew little about poker.
It occured to me then that bad beats come and go but life is precious. I donked off some more chips and did a rebuy and then an add on

The money was 100% going to Angels in Atlanta and for once in my poker playing career, I was more than anxious to lose my buy in for a good cause
