Okay, By popular request I had to add this forum. Although we are all poker affiliates, most of us play as well. Were trying to make this a great community and sometimes we have to talk about something other than business :P
Anyways, I read a post on another forum where a guy said that sometimes it is correct to fold AA before the flop. Personally no matter what kind of game it was I would never fold AA before the flop.
Whether it's limit or no limit I just don't see how you can. I have always played the game where when you have the best hand you get your chips in the middle. Before the flop AA is the nuts. After the flop, sure there are always times you should fold. If I get sucked out by some schmuck calling with KQ then so be it.
My buddy said "Well yea but if it's the first hand of a BIG tourney, than just fold and wait for a better opportunity" My thought is, if you can't play AA prior to the flop at any point in the tournament then you probably shouldn't even be playing.
Just curious to hear all your thoughts.

AA pre-flop gotta play 'em big to weed out all the chasers, hopefully leaving yourself heads up or max two players.

In a ring game, hell no. In a tournament, it would have to be the perfect situation. (ITM, Like 4 people in front of me would have to go all-in, and if 3 people get knocked out then I am looking at a significantly higher payout.)

You guys would never fold AA preflop because no one explained to you why you should. Its all about percentages, we all know this. AA vs KK pf is a 80/20. But if you are going all in pf with say three other people then your odds are less than 50%, you will have the best hand but you will be at maybe 45% and then there will be a 20% a 18% and a 17% . So why would you want to go all in with less than a 50% shot with a hand that is not ever a drawing hand. You'd be better off with 67xx. About a month ago I was in a similar situation, very first hand of a SNG @ PP I get KK and call an all in pf. Unfortunatly two other people called the all ins also. So just going up against three other people puts me less than 50% chance of winning. I figured the best possiblity was that a couple of them would have one A, maybe an A K and that way most of their outs would be gone. Well A 6 won and that was the worst hand. The point is aces can beat one maybe two people all in pf but no more, otherwise you're just gambling.

"So why would you want to go all in with less than a 50% shot with a hand that is not ever a drawing hand."
cause you are getting more than 2 to 1 on your money. e.g. if i have a 20% chance to win, which is 1 in 5, and i am getting 6 to 1 in return....i will take that bet all day, any day.

The thing is in a tourny you may not be getting any money, that is why in certain situations in a tourny it is correct to fold pf. Cash game is different.

Hi,
the correct play is not to fold your AA, even if the whole table moves all-in in front of you. Sure your percentages of win go down, but your pot odds go up.
No solid player will fold aces in this situation.
The only time I do fold aces, I' ve done it twice, is in a supersatellite where say 5 places get a seat, and there are 6-7 players left, and I have a stack that is almost certain to make it. I don't need to play another hand, not even AA.
But that's it. Any other frequent situation you have to play AA.
