How PAP has helped me become a better affiliate

First of all PAP has not helped me become a better affiliate but has helped me become an affiliate period. Before I came across the PAP forums (PAW at the time) I had no clue what a poker affiliate was or anything about websites at all.

In 2006 my friend who had been making some decent cash by promoting party poker with offline promotions told me about it and insisted I joined the PAW forums. Excited to learn more I joined the forums thinking I would be making hundreds of dollars a week through offline promoting at my local mall. I visited the mall a few times with business cards I had made with a Party Poker bonus code on them. After a few weeks I had 0 sign ups and 0 dollars profit. I decided that I was wasting my time and my dream of making hundreds of dollars placing poker business cards in my local malls washroom was done.

I went on with my normal life for about at year and a half when last September I was enrolled in my first year of university taking business. One of the courses I had chosen to take was called ‘Computer Science’. In the third week of classes this course introduced me to basic web design using dreamweaver. We were in labs creating very crappy basic websites that I thought were awesome. I sat in class wondering what kind of websites I could make using dreamweaver. At the time I was still playing a bit of online poker and a lot of live games. This got me thinking about making a poker website to advertise local live poker games going on around the university. I went home and searched in Google until I came across the PAP forums once again.

I browsed the forums for awhile trying to figure out how you can get a website you have created in dreamweaver onto the internet. I had no clue what a domain or hosting was at all. After figuring that out through some posts on the forums I decided to download dreamweaver and get started on a site.

For the next week I basically locked myself in my dorm room while my friends on the floor were out partying and doing there thing. I was determined to create a wicked site that I could advertise to kids at the university and try and get them to sign up at online poker rooms. When creating the site I came across tons of questions that I had no clue where I could find the answers. After a few quick posts on PAP I had some great answers and a few people PM me to help. The one person who stands out most at the start was NewPokerGirl (or Nicole). She added me on messenger and I asked her literally the stupidest questions possible about my website. I think the first night I added her she talked to me for like 3 hours straight about my website. I was truly amazed that someone with their own projects to work on would help out someone like me so much, when I had nothing in return to offer. I ended up learning that this is what PAP is all about.

My site finally got finished and now that I look back it was probably the ugliest website I have ever seen (NPG do you still have the screenshot?). After a few more PAP members kindly told me the design was not the best looking I decided it needed to look nicer. I went out and got a template for the site, now it was time for SEO. This is when I thought “what the heck is SEO”. I got some help from members who directed me to articles focusing on SEO. I did a lot of hours of research and bugged a lot of the PAP members until I finally understood what it was all about. With a few friendly link exchanges from some people here my site got listed in Google and I started to receive some traffic.

The first three months the only money I had earned was through referring my friends - I had made $0 through my website. This is where PAP comes in - not only for new affiliates but old affiliates as well. Things such as inspiring forum posts, blog posts, the PAP radio show and helpful members have helped me enjoy everyday of being a poker affiliate – even at the times I was making no money or when I am going through tough slides.

The last few summers I was stuck working outside in the scorching hot sun doing labor work all summer. This summer I now own a handful of websites and I’m making more than I ever have in one summer and I am building a future at the same time. I have set a goal for myself to be making $5,000 per month through poker affiliating by March 2009. A big step up from when I was ecstatic from making $250 in CPA in one month. If it wasn’t for PAP and the community we have here I know I would be back outside in the hot sun doing labor work for yet another summer wondering where my life was really going.

I just wanted to end this post with a shout out to Jeremy, Greg and the PAP team and anyone on the PAP forums who have ever helped me in any way (There is way to many to list). Being a part of the PAP community has helped me make money through poker affiliating, but what I am really thankful for is how it has changed my outlook on life.

Great post poker69 - as for an AM, its a pleasure when an affiliate adds you on MSN/Skype and you get speaking to them to find out another fellow PAP affiliate has recommended you personally - you know who you are

My journey started 3 years ago when I was 16. I started up my own free forum called Gooder Poker. (I tried to find it but I guess the forum I had it on closed it down). I built up the member base to around 800 members in about a year mostly by hosting private freerolls and buyins making on average $20 a month. I then stumbled upon an opportunity of a lifetime although I didn’t know it at that time. I was offered to buy a web site at a very low cost by a friend I had made over the period of time working on my free forum. I agreed to buy it from him and became the owner of www.freepokerfind.com.
Around this time I became a member at PAP and I cramed my mind with information I picked up from reading members posts. I learned everything I know from PAP, from marketing and affiliating to building a web site and how to code html. As the time went on and I learned more and more I saw a relation with my profits. Every month they were going up and up and I started to build more sites.
I then decided to move on in the industry and become an AM. I joined Prime Gaming and used all the knowledge I accumulated from the time at PAP and used it to help my affiliates as I was and am an affiliate and knew what they wanted. I was lucky enough to go to the CAP spring break. My first event I have ever been to and it was amazing! I met a few from PAP and many other affiliates and AM’s from all over the world. One of the best things was drinking with an affiliate and the look on their face when I told them my age, The best line was when an affiliate said “ My AM is old enough to be my son.” It was a great experience and a lot of fun but most of all it was very educational things that can’t be learned from sitting at a computer.
I am now working for Raider Poker and my mission is to make it a large and competitive poker room. From the day I registered at PAP my life has been on a rise. Without PAP I would not be were I am today, Most likely I would have quit long ago but today sky is the limits and many bigger and better things are on the way I just know it and I owe it all to PAP. This contest reminds me to much of school lol but I made a graph to explain how PAP helped me and a visual impact.

Line1: Joining PAP
Line2: learning and growing my site
Line3: opening new sites and trying new things learned from PAP
Line4: Becoming an AM
Line5: Sky is the limit for me and everyone at PAP

Aweswome stuff so far from Kevin and Ryan. I hope there are going to be some more posts. I'm looking forward to the meet up for sure now. Jeremy and I will have to make sure to provide a mini Hugh Hefner suite in his room. For those who can remember 2006 CAC Vegas (Graham and others) just picture my demolished MGM Grand suite
