Default Links in h1 tags

I was looking at someones source page (yes I am nosy) and seen that they were putting links in with their h tags...all of them to be exact. Is this normal? Can this make any difference.....either positive or negative (mainly I am thinking negative)

it doesn't make a lot of sense to do so for an h1 tag as that h1 tag is for the page you're on and shouldn't link to another page/site OR itself.

i'd use links in h2,h3,h4,h5,h6 tags though - don't worry about the positive/negative aspect though as there isn't a single be all end all miracle/mistake decision for decreasing/increasing seo results

Just to ask but what is the difference than? Your h1 tag is the main information subject of that page with the other h tags as sub categories, breaking the content into groups

So why cant you use this in the h1 but yet the others are ok? Do the other tags not matter that much that it would make no difference? Just curious as to the reason....but yes I did see it in all the tags which made me wonder

Thanks!

You should use your hyperlinks in places where it makes sense to do so. If you have an H1 tag that logically should link to somewhere else, then do it. (I can't imagine a situation where it would make sense to do so though. Since the H1 tag generally refers the subject matter of the page you're already on, why would you link out to another page?)

On the other hand, I can see how an H2 tag might make sense to link to another page from. Suppose you have a listing of "No Download Casinos" and that's your H1 tag. Then you have 10 casinos on the page, each with a short paragraph about it, and the name of each casino is in an H2 tag. If you have full pages about each casino, it might make sense to link the name of the casino in the H2 tag to the casino page.

I don't know that there's any particular search engine benefit to doing it that way though. And I can see how it might or might not be seen as tricky. I think it's unusual to link to a page from an H tag, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense to do so.

I've used'em in in titles for article excerpts that link to the full article, h1's & h2's A few blogs do also in their default layouts.
One of the reasons blogs were kickin' everyones arse a year or so back, along with the clean xhtml of most blogs. It sure doesn't hurt the SEO.
