Default Hosting multiple sites on one hosting account

Is this generally a bad idea? How about a separate hosting account with the same company, does that make any difference?

Yea I have 6 or 7 sites held on one reseller account with my host...it's super convenient and easy to manage.

"Bad" is not the same as "not as good". The best scenario is different dedicated IPs from different IP blocks... but it isn't worth killing yourself over.

I know you mentioned different IP blocks, which I agree with but why do some people say it must be different "class c" IP addresses?

As far as I know, the two things that make a class c ip address are the subnet and being in the range of 192-254 or something like that.

Why couldn't it be a "class a" IP address? 1 of my sites is hosted on 68.xxx.xxx.xxx and I have another one on 67.xxx.xxx.xxx. Why would a search engine think these sites were on the same computer? The network identifier is different.

Is there something I'm missing or are "class c" people just over simplifying things?

Sorry if this went off topic a little bit.

I've read many many posts where people said their ranking improved greatly when they went dedicated.. Not saying it's true, perhaps they did more than change hosting plans when they shot up in serps.. but I HAVE read a lot of pretty prominent people say it makes a big deal.

Having your sites on all seperate IP's is a plus... a BIG plus.... having them spread out over seperate blocks is a bonus!

The best way is to have every site on a different hosting account, on a different class c ip, and a different company. That is the best if you plan on interlinking in any way.

It's also a huge pain in the ass and almost not worth it. If you are a super organized person, it's probably a good bet though.

Because Google and other search engines can tell if a site is on the same c-block or not. And if you have say 20 sites on the same c-block, and interlinking them in some way, you are going to see a major devaluing of those links as opposed to if the 20 sites were spread out among different c-blocks or better yet different companies altogether.

This is the biggest disadvantage to hosting all your sites on one or two dedicated servers or reseller accounts.
